The main goal of this study is to analyze the effects of children's sex and puppet play activities on the children's helping and sharing behaviors. The subjects were 66 five-year-old children at J kindergarten which was located in Daegu City. Those children were assigned in groups two groups, exprimental group and comparison group, considering their age and gender, family back ground, their living environments. The experimental group received the puppet play activities 24 times for the total of 12 weeks. And the comparison group was read of fairy tales and talked about it and then watched experimental group's puppet play activities.
Research tools were Iannotti(1985)'s for helping behavior, scale Bar-Tal(1979)'s 5 steps sharing behaviors scale which was used by Gae(1979) for sharing behavior research. Before and after the treatment, two group of children were tested to find out the interaction between children's sex and existence and nonexistence of puppet play activities for helping and sharing behaviors. The data were analyzed by two-way ANCOVA in order to explore the effects of children's sex and puppet play activities on the children's helping and sharing behaviors and find out its interactions effects.
The result were as follows, First, puppet play activities were effective in improving children's helping behavior in positive way but there was no differences by sex or interaction between sex and group. Second, puppet play activity were effective in improving children's sharing behaviors. However, there was no significant difference by sex or interaction between sex and group.
