The purpose of this study is in exploring spirituality between Christianity and other religions through comparing the concept of spirituality, the doctrine, and the origin and development of religions. But for a lot of religions in the world the other religions are limited only Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam of which are giving much influence to the world. The main questions are focused on what the differences of each spirituality are and what the common features are those are ultimately pursuing between Christianity and other religions. Finally it deals with what the ultimate worth of Christian's spirituality are.
In comparing the spirituality of Christianity and other religions important factors of understanding each religions are who the absolute being is and what the ultimate purposes are. Because the absolute being is the cause of the ultimate purpose, and the ultimate purpose provides the reason that they are pursuing the spirituality in their life. Therefore, Buddhism tries to become a Buddha through enlightenment, nirvana, that is known, 'realization', and Hinduism wants to be the Brahman who is their absolute being, through asceticism and practice, and Islam requires the submission to the will of Allah for their salvation. Likewise, Christianity wants to be like Jesus Christ through faith. All religions have different ways for pursuing their spirituality, but they have something in common to reach their absolute being or to be something absolute. The clear difference of Christianity and other religions is depending on human's effort and God's grace. The spirituality in other religions is pursuing their absolute being by human's effort, like asceticism, practice, or keeping their religious rule. However, Christianity depends on God's grace through the relationship with God. Christianity says that the salvation cannot get by with human's effort. Christianity does not recognize human's salvation, without solving human's original sin; therefore, Christian spirituality depends on God's grace, and desires the unity with God through the spiritual relationship with the Holy Spirit. Christianity believes that human can reach God's requirement only in Jesus Christ through the relationship with the Holy Spirit. That is, the purpose of Christian spirituality is pursuing the unity with God, not by human's effort but by God's grace. Therefore, Christian spirituality has the clear difference with other religions, which is pursuing their self-salvation. Because of that reason, Christianity has more differences like the Atonement of Jesus Christ, help by the Holy Spirit, and need to be born again.
