The Influence of Types of Teacher's Questioning on Children's Vocabulary and Language Expression Abilities : In FairyThe purpose of this study was to investigate differences in children's vocabulary and language expression abilities among young children and differences between the experimental group and the control group in vocabulary and language expression abilities as a function of teacher's questioning patterns.
To achieve the aim of this study, posed questions as follows;
1. Is there any difference in young children's vocabulary according to teacher's questioning types?
2. Is there any difference in young children's language expression abilities according to teacher's questioning types?
The subjects of this research were 40 5- and 6- year-old at different class of the kindergarten in Jeonju. (experimental group: 20, control group: 20).
A class twenty(20) kids were selected as experimental group and another class twenty(20) kids were done as control group. Experimentation for study was expedited for eight weeks - one week for beforehand test, six weeks for experimentation and treatment, and one week for post test - from March 5 2007 to April 27 2007.
In this study, to examine the increase of five-year-old kid's available vocabulary number applied 'Available vocabulary test' of Kwon Kyung-An(1981)'s language test tool.
Moreover, regarding test tool for language, used by extracting a portion from materials developed by Jang Young-Ae.
After experimentation and treatment, also conducted t-test for two groups by using SPSS15.0
The results of this study are as follows.
Firstly, experimental group higher vocabulary ability than control group. Control group did not show a meaningful difference statistically, but experimental group showed a very significant difference.
Secondly, experimental group (divergent questioning patten) improved their language expression abilities much more than control group(convergent questioning patten).
From the results of this research, the effects of in vocabulary and language expression abilities as a function of teacher's questioning patterns, when teacher had the divergent questioning patten can be improved vacabulary ability of the children effectively.
