The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of music drama activity based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence.
The questions for research were as follows; First, what is the effect of music drama activity based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence? Second, What is effect of music drama activity based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence according to gender?
The subjects of this research were 41 5-year-old at two different kindergarten in Jeonju. (experimental group: 20, control group: 21). the Experimental group listened to a stories the music drama activity once a week for eight weeks and the control group listened to a stories without music drama activity.
A pretest was conducted for the two groups before beginning the music drama activity.
A posttest was conducted for the music drama activity for eight weeks to improve the children's emotional intelligence in experimental group with the same method as the pretest. This research used the emotional intelligence evaluation instrument developed by Salovey and Mayer(1996)'s emotional intelligence check list(5-year-old children), which was translated and reconstructed by Lee Byeong-rae(1997) with rating scale observation to measure emotional intelligence. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups on the pretest.
Experimental procedures were preliminary test, pretest, experimental treatment for eight weeks and a posttest. The analysis of results of evaluating children's emotional intelligence was based on the two-way ANOVA program.
The results of this study are as follows;
First, it is found that experimental group which conducted the music drama activity had significantly higher intelligence scores than the control group without the music drama activity.
Second, the effect of music drama activity on the influence of role play based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence showed a significant difference between the two groups.
Third, the results of research on the effect of music drama activity based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence suggested that there was a statistically significant difference in male and female children in experimental group according to sex and female children got higher scores than male children.
From the results of this research, the effects of music drama activity based on children's stories on children's emotional intelligence. Accordingly, when the music drama activity is used actively in educational field, children's emotional intelligence can be improved effectively.
