The purpose of this study is to explore how much bibliotherapy would effect low-income children's self-esteem, and sociality. Towards this aim, a hypothesis for this study that bibliotherapy programs would effect would effect both low-income children's self-esteem and sociality was built.
To identify these hypotheses, the subjects in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju city, who they were from low-income group between the third grade and the sixth grade, were sampled, interviewed, and tested through eight times(one per a week).
The results of the study were as following : First, in relation to children's self-esteem, from T-test(A group to B group), general and social self-esteem were identified in a sample of children in low-income.
However, bibliotherapy programs were not significantly associated with family self-esteem. Also, studious self-esteem was significantly associated with studious performance of A group, but not significantly associated with studious performance of B group.
Second, in relation to children' sociality, from T-test(A group to B group), this study identified that bibliotherapy programs were associated with diligence, and cooperative spirit, the sub-items of sociality. the law-abiding spirit was only associated with A group, and self-control was only associated with B group .
The findings demonstrated that bibliotherapy programs were significantly associated with self-esteem and sociality of children from low-income group. So, this would be applied to employ the fundamental data for the development of bibliotherapy programs on children from low-income group as well as in the settings of social welfare practice.
