애니메이션의 셔레이드 기법 고찰 = (A) study on charade in animation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

애니메이션은 그림을 움직이게 한 17세기 환등기의 탄생 이래로 그동안 기술적, 예술적으로 많은 발전을 거듭 하여 왔다. 애니메이션은 최근 들어 세계적인 애니메이션 페스티벌의 확산과 더불어 21세기를 주도할 지식기반산업(knowledge-based industry)으로서 문화산업의 중요성에 대한 인식과 함께 영상의 한 축을 담당해야 할 몫이 커지고 있는 실정이다. 학계나 산업체에서의 애니메이션의 문화적, 산업적, 사회학적 측면의 재조명과 연구가 필요한 시점이라 하겠다. 애니메이션은 단순히 오락적, 산업적 측면의 관점에서 뿐만이 아니라 예술로서의 시각과 인식이 필요하다. 영상의 기법중 하나인 셔레이드에 관해서 기존의 애니메이션에서 적용된 것을 고찰함으로써 셔레이드의 사용을 효과적으로 활용하는 기틀이 되리라 기대해 본다.
영화의 독창적 표현기법인 셔레이드, 몽타주, 미장센은 영화의 속성인 시각적인 측면의 표현에 중요한 기법으로 사용되고 있다. 그 중의 하나인 셔레이드는 다양하고 심층적으로 표현되고 있으며 인물의 심리 표현에 가장 적합하다고 생각된다. 셔레이드는 언어를 동원하지 않고 비유적 테크닉을 통하여 사상과 심상을 전달하는 영상의 기법중 하나이다. 심리적인 내면을 묘사하는 고도의 기법이므로 무의식속에 잠재한 인간심리추구가 전제되어야 하며 연출자의 창의성과 치밀한 계산이 수반되어야 한다. 영화의 기법인 셔레이드의 사용은 애니메이션에 있어서도 동일하게, 혹은 더욱 다양하게 사용되고 있음을 동작표현, 소도구표현, 장소표현, 자연물표현, 색채표현, 조명표현, 촬영표현, 사운드표현의 측면을 통하여 분석하여 고찰하였다. 또한 본 고찰을 위해 분류한 항목이 미장센과 겹치는 관계로, 셔레이드와 미장센의 개념에 관해 비교 고찰하였다.
극영화가 시작된 이래로 클로즈업의 효과적 사용에 더불어 셔레이드는 심리적 표현에 있어서 절대적인 수단이 되고 있다. 셔레이드는 원시시대 이후로 일상의 삶에서 지금도 사용되고 있으며 영상의 근본이 되는 시각적 표현을 가장 효과적으로 표현하고 있다. 현대의 관객은 영상의 빠른 전개를 선호한다. 때문에 불필요한 대사를 절제하고 상징과 메타포를 이용하여 영상으로 말하는 셔레이드는 더욱 필요한 기법이 되고 있다. 영상 미학의 관점에서 보더라도 셔레이드는 독창적인 예술을 지향한다. 따라서 셔레이드의 적절한 사용은 영상에 있어서 표현하고자 하는 효과를 더욱 극대화하여 영상을 고급스럽고 매력있게 한다. 셔레이드는 기능적인 측면, 예술적인 측면의 모두를 충족시키고 있는 기법이다.
애니메이션은 영화와 마찬가지로 허구이지만 실재의 재현이 아닌 상징, 은유, 풍자로 표현되고 있는 영상이다. 애니메이션만의 독특한 양식은 셔레이드의 표현에 있어서도 영화보다 더 복잡다단하게 묘사된다. 애니메이션의 셔레이드 기법은 실사영화에서의 사용과 마찬가지로 애니메이션의 연출에서 간접적인 묘사로 정확한 심리묘사를 가능케 한다. 따라서 애니메이션의 셔레이드 기법의 적극적인 수용과 개성 있고 독창적인 셔레이드 기법의 개발에 힘써야 한다고 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Animation has gone through much development technologically and artistically since the invention of a slide projector which made pictures move in the 17 century. With spread of global animation festivals, animation has had a larger role to play than as a knowledge based industry leading 21 century. It is time that reorganization and research on animation of cultural, industrial organizations should be needed. Animation needs a viewpoint and recognition as an art as well as those of just recreational and industrial sides. Future will be the age when imagination and ideas will be forces. We can expect to make the foundation for effective use of charade by researching what was applied in the established animation. Original expression techniques, such as charade, montage and mise-en-scene, are being used as essential techniques for expressing the visual aspect, which is an attribute of movie. Charade out of them is the most various and profound technique and suited to expressing figures‘ psychology. Charade is one of the techniques of movie which transfer thoughts and images without using languages. As it is the highest technique describing psychological inside, the study on human psychology lying behind unconsciousness should be promised and it should be followed by a director's creativity and careful reckoning. I have analyzed and examined that charade, which is one of the techniques of movie, is used in animation in the same way as movie through the aspects of the expression of figures' action, properties, setting, shooting, nature things, colors, illuminations and sounds. Charade has become absolute means in psychological expressions with the effective use of close-up since kinema drama beginning. Charade has been used in daily life up to now since the primitive times and carries the visual expression, the foundation of image most effectively. Modern spectators prefer the development of fast images.
So charade which restrains from unnecessary lines and expresses through images using symbols and metaphor is becoming a more necessary technique. Besides, in terms of image esthetics, charade is seeking for an original art. Thus, the proper use of charade makes the effect for expression in image the greatest and images advanced and attractive.
Charade is the technique which satisfies not only functional sides but also artificial sides. Animation is a fiction like movie but it is an image expressed through symbol, metaphor and satire, not representation. The unique mode of animation is more various and complicated than that of movie in the expression of charade. The technique of charade enables exact psychology description through indirect description in animation direction. Therefore, positive acceptance in the development of the technique of charade and characteristic and original technique of charade are demanded.
