조기어학연수의 경험유무가 학습자의 영어학습태도에 미치는 영향 = (The) effect of early study abroad on english language learning attitudes

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 현재 중학교 2학년 학생들을 대상으로 중학교 입학 이전의 조기어학연수 참여가 영어학습태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보는 것이다. 설문조사는 서울 강남 지역의 중학교 2학년 학생을 대상으로 실시하였고 최종 205부의 설문을 바탕으로 분석하였다.

본 연구의 주요 분석 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 조사대상자의 조기어학연수 참여여부에 따른 영어학습태도는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 조기어학연수에 참여한 학생들의 집단이 참여하지 않은 학생들보다 더 긍정적인 영어학습태도를 보였다.
둘째, 조기어학연수 세부사항에 있어서 조사대상자의 ‘어학연수국가, 어학연수를 처음 다녀온 시기, 어학연수의 총 기간, 어학연수에 대한 자기평가, 어학연수의 만족도’에 따른 영어학습태도는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 조사되었다.
셋째, 조기어학연수 세부사항에 있어서 조사대상자의 ‘어학연수 국가, 어학연수의 총 기간, 어학연수에 대한 자기평가’가 학습자의 영어학습태도에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 조사되었다.
이와 같은 분석을 통해 다음과 같은 제언을 하고자 한다.
첫째, 우리나라의 교육체제에 적용될 수 있는 다양한 외국의 어학연수 프로그램이 개발되어야 한다. 이를 통하여 어학연수의 기회를 갖지 못한 학습자들도 어학연수 프로그램을 접할 수 있고 보다 긍정적인 영어학습태도를 키울 수 있을 것이다.
둘째, 학습자들이 우리나라의 영어마을프로그램을 참여할 수 있도록 다양한 기회를 제공해야 한다. 또한 영어마을 경험 이후 학습자들을 정기적으로 관리할 수 있는 후속 프로그램의 개발과 다양한 활동들의 개발이 필요하다.
셋째, 이 논문을 바탕으로 영어학습태도에 관한 후속연구가 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to research the effect of early study abroad on their English language learning attitudes. For this purpose, a questionnaire on attitudes, interest and anxiety involved in English learning was created. With this questionnaire a survey was conducted with middle school students.

This result of the survey are summarized as follows.
First, there are significant differences in subjects` English language learning attitudes depending on their experience of early study aboard. The group of subjects experienced early study aboard had more positive English learning attitudes than the one without the experience.
Second, there are significant differences in English language learning attitudes according to the following 5 variables - the country, the first age of early study abroad, the period, the overall evaluation and the satisfaction of the study- of questionnaires, which were asked of the subjects participated in early study abroad.
Third, the 3 variables - the country, the period and the overall evaluation- have a significant effect on English language learning attitudes.
On the basis of the above result, the following suggestions were made.
First, we should adopt and develop a variety of ESL`s programs applicable to our educational system. So that, students who can not have an opportunity to study abroad can have similar language learning experience in Korea. As a result, they can develop more positive English language learning attitudes.
Second, it is necessary to provide students with opportunities to participate in English Village programs. Furthermore, follow-up programs, a variety of interesting activities and exercises also should be implemented to help students retain what they learned from participating the English Village programs.
Third, this study suggests further researches on the subject of English language learning attitude with students.
