This study aims at producing the activity-oriented career guidance program connected with the 6th grade curriculum of elementary school and investigating the effect on the student's career awareness when it is applied to the elementary school students in the 6th grade. In order to achieve this aim, this study selected 2 classes in the 6th grade of D elementary school in Seoul, then divided into an experimental class and a control class. The activity-oriented career guidance program was conducted to the experimental class for 5 weeks, 2 times every week. The program consisted of total 10 sessions with 40 minutes for each session.
The activity-oriented career guidance program used in this study is based on 'Career Awareness Program and Career Education Program for Elementary School Students' by Seoul Education Research Institute (1993), 'Career Maturity Improvement Program' developed by Incheon Institute of Education Science (1995), 'Personality Guidance Program for Career Education' by Gwangju Institute of Education Science (1992), 'Career Education Program' by Gyeonggi Education Research Institute (1992), 'Career Education Going With Curriculums' by Seoul Education Science Research Institute (2002), 'Career Guidance Program with the Equality of the Sexes' by Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development (2003), and the data of 'Career Guidance for Elementary School Students to Build a Dream' by Gangwon Institute of Education Science(2006). It was also reconstructed by integrating the career guidance program as a guidance plan that can be applied to the class with the activity focusing on the concrete examples, the activity-based method, the activity that students are actively participating in, and the activity, role play, and games that provide a role model or self-experience rather than a lecture or a discussion from 'Activity-Oriented Career Guidance Program' by Bong-Soon Lee (2001).
The measurement tools used in this study are the questionnaire on the career awareness from previous studies based on the data of 'Career Education' by Korean Educational Development Institute (1982) and the questionnaire verified at the researches by Soon-Ja Choi (1998) and Bong-Soon Lee (2002) based on the questionnaire by Han-Gyu Cho (1997).
As a measurement tool, career awareness was divided into 4 sub-areas (self-awareness level, interest level in career, attitude and values toward career, and decision-making on the career plan) and a questionnaire was made to conduct a preliminary and a post examination to the two groups and collect the measurement data. In order to identify the consubstantiality of the experimental group and the control group, SPSS (Version 13.0) statistical program for PC use was applied to each score of the 4 sub-areas of career awareness. As a result, the consubstantiality of the two groups was identified.
After conducting the program, a post examination identical to the preliminary examination was conducted to identify the effect of the program. The analysis of the application of the activity-oriented career guidance program connected with the curriculum shows the following results:
