The purpose of this study was to find out how much elders domiciled at free daycare center feel satisfied at living in facility, and how much there are significant differences in their facility living satisfaction depending upon sociodemographic characteristics and the contents of local community fellowship program.
Existing studies and literatures have focused largely on investigating elders' living satisfaction. Thus, this study aimed to find out their facility living satisfaction through actual profile of services in daycare facility, and demonstrate that the contents of local community fellowship program have positive effects on improving facility living satisfaction of elders domiciled at free daycare center.
To start with, this study applied a questionnaire survey dating from Sep. 18 to 25, 2006 to total 150 male and female elders at 65 or older age domiciled at 3 free daycare facilities located in Busan metropolitan city, and the resulting data were processed through frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, t-test and analysis of variance(ANOVA) using SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of these analyses can be summed up as follows:
First, it was found that elders felt relatively high satisfaction at daily living service, ambient service and medical service available in free daycare facilities they lived in, and particularly felt the highest satisfaction at daily living service.
Second, the results of analyzing satisfaction of elders who joined local community fellowship program showed that they felt relatively high satisfaction at the program, although there were somewhat differences depending on each program.
Third, the results of analyzing elders' facility living satisfaction depending on their sociodemographic characteristics showed that there were significant differences in their satisfaction depending upon frequency of contact with children, availability of relatives and frequency of contact with relatives.
Fourth, the results of analyzing facility living satisfaction depending on the contents of local community fellowship program showed that the elders who joined local community fellowship programs - such as going to movie, visiting historical sites, local respect-for-age feast, local sports day, shopping, using outdoor medical facilities, conversations with assistance trainees and volunteers, and more - felt higher satisfaction at living in facility than controls without joining the programs, which means that joining these programs is in significant associations with elders' facility living satisfaction.
