초등학생의 자원봉사활동과 생명존중의식에 관한 연구 : 인천광역시 초등학생을 중심으로 = (A) Research on the Relationship between Volunteering and the Conception for Respecting life among Elementary School Children : Focused on Elementary School Children in Incheon Metropolitan City

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학생을 대상으로의 자원 봉사 활동 경험 유무에 따라 그들이 인지하고 있는 생명 존중 의식과 자원 봉사 활동에 대한 인식에 대하여알아보고, 초등학생의 생명 존중 의식을 함양하기 위한 봉사 활동의 방향을 모색하여 초등학교 사회사업의 도입을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다.
이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 세운 연구 문제는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 초등학생의 자원 봉사 활동 유ㆍ무에 따른 자원 봉사 활동에 대한 인식에는 차이가 있는가?
둘째, 초등학생의 자원 봉사 활동 유ㆍ무에 따라 생명 존중 의식은 차이가 있는가?
연구 대상은 인천광역시내 초등학생 240명을 학년별, 성별로 유의 표집 하여 설문 조사를 2004년 9월 15일부터 9월 25일에 이루어졌으며, 선정된 연구 대상 학교를 연구자가 직접 방문하여 조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSSWIN 11.0 프로그램을 이용하여 교차 분석(chi-square), t-검증(t-test),일원변량분석(One-way Anova) 방법을 이용하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요악하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 자원 봉사 활동에 대한 인식에 대한 조사에서는 자원 봉사 활동을 지속적으로 실시하고 있는 아동이 자원 봉사 활동을 지속적으로 실시하지 않고 있는 아동보다 참여 내용, 부모님의 자윈 봉사 활동 경험 유무, 자원봉사 활동 필요도, 자원 봉사 활동이 필요한 주된 이유, 자원 봉사 활동 시 효과적인 조직, 자윈 봉사 활동 시 장애 요인, 자원 봉사 활동에 계속 참여할 의사에 대한 인식이 높게 나타났다.
둘째, 생명 존중 의식에서 학년별로는 학년이 낮을수록 생명 존중 의식이 높게 나타났으며, 성별로는 여자가 남자보다 높게 나타났으며 자원 봉사 경험유무에 대해서는 자원 봉사를 1년 동안 정기적으로 경험한 집단이 더 높게 나타났다. 하지만 종교 유무에 따라서는 생명 존중 의식에 차이를 보이지 않았다.
셋째, 자원 봉사 활동 경험이 있는 경우 생명 존중 의식이 높게 나왔으므로 생명 존중 의식을 높이기 위한 자원 봉사 활동의 활성화 방안을 제시하면 다음과 같다.
우선, 학교 자체의 노력이 필요하다. 자원 봉사 활동을 정규 교과과정으로 편입시켜 인성 함양이라는 본래의 취지를 충분히 살릴 수 있도록 해야 할 것이며 학부모 자원 봉사 활동을 활성화 시켜야겠다.
또한, 자원 봉사 활동에 참가하고 있는 아동들에게 다양한 프로그램을 제공하여 지역사회 내에서 자신들의 위치와 정체감 형성에 도움을 주어야 하므로 학교 단위의 프로그램 활성화가 더 요구되는데 학내의 특별 활동 시 특성별 봉사 활동의 장려나 상장 수여 등으로 보다 활발한 봉사 활동이 되도록 유도해야 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the conception for respecting life and the awareness of volunteer activities by elementary school children, depending on their volunteering experience, as well as rendering basic data for introducing the social work project for elementary schools in our nation by finding desirable ways to cultivate their conception for respecting life.
To achieve the goal of this study, I have established some study problems as below:
FIRST: Is there any difference between the children who have volunteering experience and those who do not have any experience on their awareness on volunteer activities?
SECOND: Is there any difference between the children who have volunteering experience and those who do not have any experience on their conception for respecting life?
This study has been implemented by conducting a questionnaire on 240 elementary school children in Incheon Metropolitan City after collecting those children randomly by grade and gender during the period of September 15, 2004 to September 25, 2004. I was able to visit the subject school where the children are attending by myself to implement the study. The selected data were being processed through chi-square, T-test and one-way Anova, etc. by utilizing the SPSSWIN 11.0 program.
The following is a summary of the result of this study.
Firstly, when it comes to the investigation on the awareness of volunteer activities, children who have been participating in those activities continuously have significantly higher level of knowledge on the content of volunteer activities, their parents' volunteering experience if any, the necessity of volunteer activities, main reasons why volunteering is needed, effective organizations for volunteering, obstacles to volunteering and intention to participate in volunteering continuously, etc., comparing to those who do not participate in the activity continuously.
Secondly, it turns out that the lower the grade, the higher the conception for respecting life becomes. Girls have the higher conception than boys, and the group which has experience volunteering regularly for over one year has the higher conception for respecting life. However, there is no difference by religion.
Thirdly, the conception for respecting life is higher in the case of experiencing volunteer activities, therefore I would like to suggest some ways to encourage volunteer activities, leading to raise the conception for respecting life, as follows.
First of all, it's required for the school authority to take actions. For example, the volunteering should be included in a regular school curriculum to reach the original purport of cultivating humanism sufficiently, as well as encouraging parents to take part in school and social volunteering with their children.
Also, it's even more required to implement programs actively by each school because it should be of any help to children in forming their sense of place and identities in a community by providing those children who are participating in volunteer activities with various programs. Accordingly, it's required to pave the way for them to participate in volunteer activities more actively by stimulating volunteering by their characteristics during extra curricula activities or presenting certificates of merit, etc.
