조기영어교육에 대한 부모의 의식 및 실태 조사 = Survey research on parents' recognition and actual condition on the early English education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 유아의 조기영어교육에 대한 부모의 의식과 실태를 조사하여 유아교육과 조기영어교육에 대한 기초 자료를 제공하고자 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이와 같은 연구목적에 따라 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다.
첫째, 조기 영어교육에 관한 부모의 의식은 어떠한가를 조사하였다.
둘째, 조기영어교육에 관한 실태는 어떠한가를 조사하였다.
본 연구의 대상은 경기도 평택시와 화성시에 위치한 어린이집과 유치원에 자녀를 보내고 있는 부모 272명을 대상으로 질문지 조사를 실시하였다. 연구의 도구는 기존의 선행 연구를 참고하여 본 연구에 맞도록 수정 보완한 질문지를 사용하였다. 회수 된 자료는 SPSS ver. 10.0을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율을 사용하였고, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 부모는 조기영어교육의 필요성을 아주 높게 의식하고 있으며, 그 이유로는 초등학교 정규 영어과목 학습을 위해서라 응답했다. 유아교육기관에서의 영어교육의 실시에 대해서 대부분 긍정적인 의식을 가지고 있으며, 특히 부담 없이 친구들과 자연스러운 환경에서 실시하기 때문에 좋다는 반응이 많았다. 사설학원에서의 조기영어교육의 실시에 대해 긍정적 의식이 그리 높지는 않으나, 교사가 외국인이라서 좋다는 반응이 많아 교사의 전문성에 대해 부모의 관심이 높은 것으로 보인다.
둘째, 조기영어교육은 반수정도의 유아들이 받고 있으며, 실시의 상당수는 유아교육기관에서 실시되고 있다. 또한 유아교육기관의 영어교육에 대해 상당수의 부모들이 긍정적으로 인식하고 있다. 그러나 조기영어교육 프로그램 개선의 필요를 높게 인식하며, 만족 및 효과에 대한 인식도 낮다. 이는 현재 유아교육기관에서 실시되고 있는 조기영어교육에 대한 부모의 인식과 실제 와의 차이가 있는 것으로 보여 진다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to furnish some fundamental data on the Early English Education to the Childhood Educationalists. The study includes parents' recognition and the actual condition of the Early English Education in the kindergartens. The concrete research questions are as follows.
First, the study includes how the parents' recognition on the Early English Education is. Second, the study shows how the actual condition on the Early English Education is.
The subjects of this study were 272 parents whose children attend kindergartens and day care located in Pyeongtaek and Hwasung in Kyeongki province. The study performed by a questionnaire which has been revised and complemented to be suited for the purpose of this study based on the preceding research. The data analyzed with Frequency, Percentage using SPSS ver. 14.0. The results of the study are summarized as follows.
First, parents highly recognizes the need of the Early English Education because the English class as a mandatory in Elementary school. Parents' recognition on the English class implemented in kindergartens and day care is positive because their children can learn English without any pressure in comfortable environment. Parents's recognition on the Early English Education implemented in private English institutes is not positive. However parents like the fact that teachers in private English institutes are native speakers. Therefore parents think that the expertise of the English teacher is very important.
Second, about half of the children in kindergartens have the Early English Education mostly implemented in kindergartens. In addition parents' recognition on the Early English Education implemented in kindergartens and day care is positive. However parents think that the English program should be improved. Therefore they are not satisfied with the current Early English Education and also doubt the effectiveness of Early English the Education, which shows the difference between the actual condition and parents' recognition on the Early English Education currently implemented in kindergartens and day care.
