The purpose of this study is to identify the association between housewives' health club participation and life satisfaction in order to actively encourage them to participate in a health club.
For this purpose, the population was established with housewives who resided in Seoul as of 2006; then, a sample was made which consisted of a total of 247 housewives―148 health club participants and 99 non-participants―using the stratified cluster random sampling method to conduct a survey.
The self-administration method was used to collect data and statistical analyses used to analyze data were t-test and one-way ANOVA, which led to the following conclusions.
First, there was no statistically significant difference in life satisfaction by the participation; health club participants showed greater life satisfaction than non-participants.
Second, there were statistically significant differences in life satisfaction by the frequency of the participation; the more frequently they participated in a health club, the greater life satisfaction they showed.
Third, there was no statistically significant difference in life satisfaction by the period of the participation; those who participated in a health club for six months to one year showed great life satisfaction.
Fourth, there was no statistically significant difference in life satisfaction by the length of time for the participation; those who participated in a health club for more than two hours showed great life satisfaction.
In sum, there was significantly positive correlation between the frequency of participation in a health club by housewives and their life satisfaction.
