This study attempted to investigate the effect of special airport guards' job stress on their job satisfaction and intention to change job. For this purpose, it conducted the questionnaire research for the special guards engaged in the jobs of special guard and security and search at nine airports(Kimpo International Airport, Yangyang International Airport, Kwangju International Airport, Pohang Airport, Ulsan Airport, Yeosu Airport, Mokpo Airport and Sacheon Airport). The measurement instrument used by Park Young-jin's(2005) study on the effect of civil guards' job stress on their job satisfaction and intention to change the job were modified to fit this study. An attempt was made to investigate and analyze the difference in job stress and sociodemographical variables according to types of airport and environmental characteristics. As a result, the following conclusion could be drawn:
First, it was found that there was no significant difference in job stress according to types of airport and environmental characteristics(p >.05). An investigation into the difference in job stress according to sociodemographical characteristics showed that the female special airport guards had the higher level of job stress than the male counterparts in terms of gender and that the special guards in the 20s, unmarried and graduated from college had the higher level of job stress than any other group. On the one hand, it was found that the group of the special airport guards employed for less than one year had the highest level of job stress according to human relations and job characteristics and the group of the special guards in their 20s had the highest level of job stress according to the job environment.
Second, an investigation into the difference in job satisfaction according to the types of airport and environmental characteristics showed that there was a significant difference in each sub-factor of job satisfaction between employees in the airport for domestic air service and the airport for international air service, between employees in the black-ink airport and the red-ink airport(p >.05). And an investigation into the difference in job satisfaction according to sociodemographical characteristics showed that the female special guards had the higher level of job satisfaction than the male counterparts and that the special guards in the 20s, unmarried and graduated from junior college had the higher level of job stress than any other group. On the one hand, On the one hand, it was found that the group of the special airport guards employed for less than one year had the highest level of satisfaction with the promotion system and fellow satisfaction and that the group of the special guards in their 30s had the highest level of performance satisfaction.
Third, an investigation into the difference in the type of airport and the intention to change the job showed that there was no significant difference in them between employees in the airport for domesticinternational air service and the airport for domestic air service. On the other hand, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference in them between employees in the red-in airport and the black-ink airport(p <.05). An investigation into the difference in the intention to change the job according to sociodemographical characteristics showed that the female special guards had the higher level of intention to change their job than the male counterparts in terms of gender and the group of the special guards in their 30s, unmarried and graduated from junior college had the higher level of intention to change the job than any other group. And it was found that the group of the special guards employed for 3 years and one month to less than 4 years had the highest level of intention to change the job.
Fourth, an investigation into the effect of job stress on job satisfaction according to the type of airport and environmental characteristics showed that there was a significant difference between employees in the airport for domesticairport air service and the airport for domestic air service and between employees in the red-ink airport and the black-ink airport(p <.05). That is, it was found that job stress of the employees in the airport for domesticinternational air service and the black-ink airport had the higher effect on their job satisfaction than that of employees in the airport for domestic air service and the red-ink airport.
Fifth, an investigation into the effect of job stress on the intention to change the job according to the type of airport and environmental characteristics showed that there was no significant difference between employees in the airport for domesticinternational air service and the airport for domestic air service and between black-ink airport and red-ink airport(p >.05).
Sixth, an investigation into the effect of job satisfaction on the intention to change the job according to the types of airport and environmental characteristics showed that there was a significant difference in the effect between employees in the airport for domesticinternational air service and the airport for domestic air service and between black-ink airport and red-ink airport(p >.05). That is, it was found that the job satisfaction had a higher effect on the intention to change the job in the special guards in the airport for domesticinternational air service and the red-ink airport than that it was in the special guards in the airport for domestic air service and the black-ink airport.
The above conclusion taken together, it was found that there was no difference in job stress between special airport guards according to the types of airport and environmental characteristics but there was a more or less difference in job satisfaction and the intention to change the job. And it was found that job stress had an effect on job satisfaction according to the type of airports and environmental characteristics and job satisfaction had an effect on the intention to change the job. The management should investigate and analyze the cause for job stress of special airport guards and establish the countermeasure for it to enhance their job satisfaction, which will reduce their intention to change the job.
To enhance the job satisfaction of special airport guards, it is necessary to readjust the very low reward to a realistic level and introduce the pay structure based on the years of service, the reasonable retirement allowance system and welfare system. They should be provided with real job education to have the vocational view that they are in charge of the safety and security of the airport as the important national facility directly related to national security.
