The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between kindergarten directors' perception of early childhood development assessment and actual early childhood development assessment, and thereby, help them understand the significance of 'assessment' in the educational process and recognize it again. For this study, the researcher sampled 85 directors of the kindergartens in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and 455 teachers working for them. In order to measure kindergarten directors' perception of early childhood development assessment, the researcher used a scaled designed by Hong Hye-kyoung (1996) and modified by Park Jeong-won (2001). And in order to survey the actual early childhood development assessments, the researcher modified and supplemented the questionnaires used by Lee Won-mi (2002) and Park Jeong-won (2001), respectively for their studies about early childhood development assessments and teachers' perceptions of them. The collected data were processed for means and standard deviations and then, analyzed for frequencies. And in order to determine the correlations between kindergarten directors' perception of early childhood development assessments and actual early childhood development assessments, means and standard deviations of variables were subject to T-test. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, kindergarten directors were highly aware of early childhood development assessments in terms of every scale items: goal, contents, timing and methods, results and assessor.Second, early childhood development was being assessed well in terms of contents, methods and feedback of results, but the assessment was not sufficiently being planned.Third, actual early childhood development assessments were positively correlated with kindergarten directors' perception of early childhood development assessments. Namely, the more the directors were aware of them, early childhood developments were well assessed in every aspect: planning, frequency, methods, contents and feedback of the results.
