Also, this study has a practical purpose of reducing stress of teenagers by examining variables that influence or relieve the stress, which causes teenagers to try to commit suicide, drink, smoke and drug abuse.
This study first analyzed the previous studies and extracted individual characteristics, relational characteristics and variables related to leisure activities for factors that influence stress of teenagers by referring to studies of other field to present a framework of analysis. The unique variables included in the study are variables related to parent-child relationship, peer relationship, using internet and using teenager facilities. For the empirical study, the study carried out a purposive sampling with 4 middle schools and 3 high schools in Daejeon by categorizing the students by gender and analyzed questionnaires collected from 345 students.
The followings show the summarized results of the study.
As for the results of the difference analysis, first, female students were under more stress than male students and generally students in higher grade were under more stress. Also, when the students were highly satisfied with their grades and looks, their stress level was low but their stress level was high when they had a lot of private lessons and private institute lessons. Second, in the relational characteristics, the students showed a low level of stress when they had fair relationships with parents and peers. Third, as for the variables related to leisure activities, the students showed a low level of stress when their satisfaction with teenager facilities and leisure activities was high and when they had more leisure time.
Based on these results, the study carried out a multiple regression analysis and in result, variables that have significant influences on stress were grade, gender, priavate lessons and peer relationship.
The main entailment of the study is that it verified that peer relationship and leisure activities of teenagers relive stress and it is expected that such data can be used to social programs for improving stress of teenagers.
