30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일과 결혼에 대한 태도 = Lifestyle of single women in their 30's and their attitude toward marriage

The purpose of this study is to understand the lifestyles of single women in their 30's through a conducted research and analysis on lifestyle both in the realm of consciousness and in their lives. Also, it is to show what differences it makes on social demographical characteristics, on their attitude toward single life and marriage, and on their life satisfaction. For the purpose a survey was conducted on 240 single women, 30 to 39 living in Seoul and its metro-politan area.
The study was undertaken in the realm of life and consciousness of lifestyle to view the lifestyles of single women in their 30's. The test consists of content, which can reflect today's society by compensating for existing test's shortcomings, and of the measurement chosen and revised from the existing researches, which can present the lifestyles of single women in their 30's in each realm. Each component is composed by applying the 5 level Likert Technique. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test, and ANOVA were used to analyze the data and the reliability of the measurement tool was checked by Cronbach's α.
The major finding of this study were as follows :
First, their lifestyles can be classified by 5 categories : "stable and steady", "conventional and conservative", "trend-leading", "faithful to oneself", "passive and indifferent".
The "stable and steady" category is characteristic of those who are conservative in the issue of sex and are leisure-oriented. The single women who can be categorized as "conventional and conservative" are the most conservative in the issue of sex, among the 5 category, and put a great value on their religious lives. The group of single women whose lifestyles are the "trend-leading" category show high interest in social problems and attach great importance to their own distinctive individuality. The "faithful to oneself" category tend to have progressive ideas about the issue of sex and are not very interested in society while they feel very highly in self-development and other personal issues. Lastly, those who are in the "passive and indifferent" category have low interest in social phenomenon and low level of self-satisfaction.
Second, those 5 categories differ with each other on the attitude toward marriage and the choice of staying single according to their lifestyles. To the question if they voluntarily have chosen to stay single, the "trend-leading" category marked on "very positive" in responding, when the "conventional and conservative" category marked on "very negative". To the question if they involuntarily have chosen to stay single, the most positive response came from the "passive and indifferent" category as they tend to wait for the right person to get married, not that they refuse to get married. For this reason, the "passive and indifferent"category could also refer to as an involuntary and temporary group. In the question about lifestyle changes they might experience after marriage, the "conventional and conservative" category showed the highest expectations about married life.
Third, in life satisfaction according to the lifestyles of single women in their 30's, the "conventional and conservative" category showed the highest satisfaction. The category who answered with the lowest level in satisfaction was the "passive and indifferent" category. Those single women classified in the "passive and indifferent" category relatively have a negative point of view about their ego and a passive way of living and leisure time consuming, which, I think, naturally has negative impact on their life satisfaction.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일을 연구하기 위해 라이프스타일 의식영역과 생활영역을 중심으로 조사 한 분석을 통하여 라이프스타일에 따른 30대 미혼여성의 사회 인구학적 특성과 미혼ㆍ결혼에 대한 태도와 삶의 만족도에 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 알아보고자 하였다.
본 연구를 위하여 서울 및 경기도의 30세부터 39세까지의 성인 미혼여성 300명을 대상으로 작성된 설문지를 배부하였으며 최종적으로 240부를 분석하였다.
30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일을 살펴보기 위해 라이프스타일의 의식과 생활측면을 다루었다. 구체적으로 의식영역은 성의식, 사회관, 인생관, 여가관, 자아관으로 이루어지고 생활영역은 여가생활, 소비생활, 인터넷 생활로 구성된다. 일반적으로 라이프스타일에 결혼관이 포함되나 연구자가 30대 미혼여성의 결혼관에 대한 관심이 높아 미혼 ㆍ 결혼에 대한 태도에 포함시켰다. 라이프스타일은 기존 라이프스타일 연구들의 제한점을 보완하여 현재 사회를 반영할 수 있는 문항으로 구성하였으며 선행연구들을 바탕으로 각 영역에서의 30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일을 반영하는 문항들을 선정하여 수정한 척도로 구성하였다. 모든 문항은 5점 Likert척도로 구성하였으며 자료 분석을 위해서 요인분석, 군집분석, χ², ANOVA 등의 방법을 사용하고 Cronbach's α를 통해 측정도구의 신뢰도를 살펴보았다.
본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요한 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일 유형은 5개의 ‘안정 건실형’, ‘관습적 보수형’, ‘유행 선도형’, ‘자아 충실형’, ‘소극적 무관심형’으로 분류되었다. 각 유형별 특징을 살펴보면 ‘안정 건실형’은 보수적 성의식을 가지고 있는 집단으로 적극적으로 여가를 즐기는 여가지향의 특성을 가지고 있다. ‘관습적 보수형’은 가장 보수적인 성의식을 가지고 있으며 종교가 생활에 미치는 영향이 큰 집단이다. 비자발적으로 미혼을 선택하였으며 결혼에 대한 기대가 큰 집단이다. ‘유행 선도형’은 사회적 관심이 높으며 자신만의 개성을 중요하게 생각하는 집단으로 자발적으로 미혼을 선택하였다. ‘자아 충실형’은 진보적인 성의식을 가지고 있으며 자기개발과 개인에 대한 관심은 높은 반면 사회 관심도는 낮은 집단이다. 마지막으로 ‘소극적 무관심형’은 사회적 관심도가 낮으며 자아에 대한 만족도가 낮은 집단으로 여가생활에 대한 관심도 낮은 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일에 따른 미혼 ㆍ 결혼에 대한 태도를 살펴보면 ‘유행 선도형’이 ‘자발적으로 미혼을 선택하였다.’에 높은 의견을 보이는 반면 가장 낮은 의견을 보인 집단은 ‘관습적 보수형’으로 나타났다. ‘관습적 보수형’은 종교의 영향을 가장 많이 받는 집단으로 종교 가치관의 영향으로 인하여 보수적인 결혼관을 지니고 있다. 이와는 대조적으로 ‘유행 선도형’은 결혼으로 인한 책임감보다는 미혼의 자유로운 생활을 선택하는 집단으로 직업적 성취에 높은 가치를 두며 진보적 결혼관을 지니고 있는 것으로 나타났다. ‘비자발적으로 미혼을 선택하였다.’에서는 ‘소극적 무관심형’이 가장 높은 반응을 보이고 있다. 즉, 결혼에 대해 부정하기보다는 적당한 배우자감이 나타나면 결혼을 하고자하는 비자발적 임시적 집단임을 알 수 있다. 결혼에 따른 삶의 변화에 대해서는 ‘관습적 보수형’이 결혼에 대한 기대가 가장 높게 나타났다.
셋째, 30대 미혼여성의 라이프스타일 유형에 따른 삶의 만족도에서 ‘관습적 보수형’이 가장 높은 만족도를 보였으며 가장 낮은 만족도를 보인 집단은 ‘소극적 무관심형’으로 나타났다. ‘소극적 무관심형’은 다른 집단에 비해 자아에 대해 부정적인 태도를 지니고 있으며 소극적인 여가생활, 삶에 대한 소극적인 태도, 자신에 대한 부정적인 시각이 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미쳐 가장 낮은 만족도를 보인다고 생각된다.
