This study has its purpose in verifying the anger expression types of adolescent women and the features for each type by using Q-methodology, and preparing for the foundation of nursing intervention strategies for each type of anger expression in order to efficiently adjust and control the anger of adolescent women by developing Q-block, an assessment tool for generalizing subjective recognition on the anger expression of adolescent women for a large sample after fully understanding it.
The Q-population on the anger expression of adolescent women was composed through related documentary considerations and in-depth interviews with 21 adolescent women, and 50 Q-samples were finally chosen by collecting the professional opinions of experts after arbitrarily selecting a statement which this study performer thinks could best represent features on the anger expression of adolescent women and have clear meaning and large discriminating power for each type. After selecting 32 adolescent women as P-sample, Q-sorting in the 9-point criteria was conducted according to their degree of agreement. As a result of the analysis using the PC-QUANL Program, five types of anger expression for adolescent women were confirmed. This study has developed Q-block, a tool for measuring the anger expression types of adolescent women by choosing the highest standard point, Z value, of the types out of the standard points for each item of the statement for five types.
Type Ⅰ "Direct Attacking Expression Type" recognizes that the situation will get worse with the accumulation of unresolved anger if bearing it in a very angry state, and thus is a type that directly erupts their feeling to a anger-causing subject externally by linguistic attacking act or physical action at the time of angry situation. Without hiding their own rage to their counterpart, and from a warning level for an act hurting their feeling not to be repeated any more, they actively respond to the situation feeing the anger to the extent that they express anger as a signal to solve their rage, and exhibit an attitude to directly resolve their rage to the subject causing the anger. Because of making much of the expression of their feeling at the time of feeling the rage, they have a propensity to solve it by aggressively erupting their feeling to their counterpart.
Type Ⅱ "Mature Consideration Type" is a type that does not impromptu express their anger at the situation of feeling it but reacts after prudently taking account of results to be caused by the expression of their anger. This is also a type that avoids anger expression as well as an aggressive action becoming harmful to their counterpart who is causing it, because they think of avoiding the aggravation of the situation owing to direct anger expression, pursue their mental health according to the less experiences of excited feeling by pushing down anger than flying into a rage, and circumspectly think their image against others. They have a propensity that thinks of the anger situation repeatedly, make an effort to understand why the anger has taken place, and positively think of bearing anger at the situation of causing it.
Type Ⅲ "Passive Indirect Expression Type" is a type that does not directly express anger to the anger-causing subject but indirectly expresses anger to the direction basically inhibiting anger and solving it themselves. They don''t hurt other people, and exhibit a disposition that indirectly expresses their anger without projecting their feeling into others because of the need to minimize negative results for them not to be hurt. They don''t solve their anger by directly expressing it to the subject and thus it persists long. In the course of getting rid of it, they also feels grudge and chagrined emotion against others, but they forget it as time passes by.
Type Ⅳ "Avoidance Conversion Type" recognizes that they cannot settle down anger by aggressive anger expression, and is a type that converts the anger through an alternative action when feeling anger by an self-reflecting attitude that tries not to repeat the same action at the situation of causing anger. Not directly erupting anger to their counterpart, they don''t regard bearing anger as a positive thing and have a feature to take anger-converting action that can acclimate and appease their anger.
Type Ⅴ "Expression Control Type" sometimes expresses their anger to the anger-causing subject by linguistic attacking expression and physical attacking expression hitting the counterpart in extreme cases, but it is a type that sublates action to express externally and aggressively, reduces angry emotion and control it. They show features that keep their composure reasonably, sometimes try to attempt conversation with their counterpart under a anger-controlled situation, and make an effort to settle down angry feeling by avoiding aggressive anger expression situation through the avoidance of a situation wit their subject.
It is thought that the results of this study can be utilized as basic materials in providing in-depth understanding on the anger expression types of adolescent women through the confirmation and analysis of five types on the anger expression types of adolescent women, and also preparing for nursing intervention strategies for the individualized anger control and adjustment that differentiate the anger expression types of adolescent women after proposing Q-block, a tool to assess the anger expression of adolescent women.
