연꽃을 응용한 주얼리디자인 연구 = (A) study of a lotus-applied jewelry design

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 인간중심의 과학기술로 피폐해진 현실에 대한 회의적 자세는 자연과 동화라는 근본적 사고， 즉 정신과 도를 강조하는 동양적 세계관에서부터 접근하고자 하고 있다． 이것은 과거 단순히 동양의 문양 등을 차용하는데 그쳤던 오리엔탈리즘을 좀더 근본적인 것으로부터 깊이 있게 연구하여 각 분야의 특성에 맞게 도입하고 트랜드화 하려는 노력으로 볼수 있을 것이다．
따라서 이 연구에서는 동양적 세계관과 함께 동서양의 조화를 담아내는 작업에 동양정신을 상징하는 연꽃을 소재로 연꽃의 형태적 구성을 응용하여 주얼리 디자인을 연구 개발하고자 한다．
연꽃은 생명의 근원인 물위에 피며 아침에 피었다가 오후면 꽃앞을 닫는 생태적 특성으로 고대문명권 중심으로 태양을 상징하여 태양꽃이라 일컬어지며 생명창조와 영원불사의 의미로 신성시하였다．
역사적으로 연꽃과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있는 나라는 우리나라와 인도， 이집트이다． 연꽃은 이집트에서 생명의 근원으로 재생과 부활， 풍요， 왕위 등을 상징하였고 인도에서는 불교가 성립되기 이전부터 광명의 꽃， 생명의 꽃이라는 사상이 민속신앙에 깊이 뿌리박고 있었다． 불교전래이후 연꽃은 빛의 상징이며 생명의 근원으로 인식되기 시작하여 오늘날까지 불교의 상징화로 강한 이미지를 갖고 있지만 중국으로 전래되면서 불교를 떠나 세속화되어 회화， 문학 등 일상생활에서 고고한 선비를 표상하여 보여졌다．
우리나라에서도 고대에는 천계， 태양을 상징하여 고분벽화의 가장 높은 중심인 천장을 연꽃으로 장식하여 경외시 했을 뿐만 아니라 군자의 꽃이요， 선비의 표상이었으며 민간문화에서는 유교와 관련하여 부귀다남의 상징이며 자손번창과 건강장수를 염원하는 뜻을 담아 회화， 건축， 공예를 비롯한 의식주와 밀접한 관련을 맺어왔다．
오늘에 이르러 연꽃의 이미지는 불타와 청정의 상징적 의미로 많은 사람들에게 사랑받고 있으며 전통문양중 길상문양으로 생활문화 속에서 문화상품 등으로 애용되고 있다．
연꽃의 구조와 생태적 특성 및 상징적 의미를 답사와 문헌을 통해 고찰 한후 연꽃잎을 크기별， 형태별로 구성하여 반복과 조합을 통해 난집 및 그 외 디자인 구성요소로 응용하였다． 또한 이 논문에서는 연꽃봉오리인 물방울 형태와 국보 제133호 청자진사안화문표형주자의 동양의 곡선미로 표현된 연꽃문양과 서양의 직선미로 표현된 이집트의 기하학적인 연꽃문양을 디자인의 주모티브로 응용하여 현대적인 이미지로 재구성하였다．
라이노3D를 활용하여 연꽃잎의 디자인 전개 및 정교한 투각기법과 치밀한 반복적 구성을 효율적이고 다양하게 전개하였으며 작품제작에 금(18K, 14K), 정은， 천연석， 합성석을 사용하였다．
한국문화는 연꽃문화라 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 우리문화와 매우 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다． 동양에 대한 관심이 증대되는 가운데， 연꽃을 현대적으로 재해석하여 패션문화속에 세속화하고 한국의 이미지화로 발전시키는 것은 의미있는 일이라 할 수 있겠다．

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As we started to have a doubt about the dreary reality of the present as a consequence of human centered technologies, many attempts have been being made to research fundamental ideas, adaptation to the nature, or Eastern view of the world which emphasizes mind and morality. It can be seen that intentions to study orientalism in depth from its origin, adopt and develop it into a trend has been underlain.
Thus, In this study I intend to develop a jewelry design by using a lotus as the subject matter and applying the form of a louts to a work which comprehend a harmony between the West and the East as well as the world view of the East.
Mainly in ancient civilizations, a lotus had been held sacred as a sign of immortality and creation of life being called the flower of the sun as the flower has a physiological character with which it opens in the morning and fold its petals in the afternoon on the surface of water, the origin of life.
Korea, India and Egypt are the countries which are connected with lotus flowers through its history. Egyptians canonized lotus flowers which symbolized revival, resurrection prosperity and throne as the origin of life. In India, the idea that lotus is the flower of the light and the flower of life was rooted deeply in its folk religions even before the Buddhism has been established. After the introduction of Buddhism, while a lotus started to be considered as the symbol of the light and the origin of life and still remains its strong image as a symbol of Buddhism until today, after the introduction of Buddhism into China, the image of a lotus departed from Buddhism, and sifted to an emblem of scholars of proud loneliness in the aspect of everyday life such as painting and literature. Also in Korea, lotus flowers were worshiped in ancient times through the ceilings, the summit of old tombs decorated with lotus flowers symbolizing the world of the sky and the sun, as well as considered as the flower of a wise man and the emblem of a scholar. In folk culture, symbolizing wealth and many sons and representing wish for health, long life and prosperity of offsprings, they have been in close touch with food, clothing and shelter along with painting, architecture and craft.
Even today the image of a lotus is adored by a lot of Koreans for its symbolic meaning of Buddha and purity, and used on cultural commodities in every day life culture as a pattern of auspice among Korean traditional patterns.
In this study, after studying the structure and symbolic meaning of a lotus through field investigations and a review of related literatures, lotus petals were constructed in diverse shapes and sizes and applied by repeating and compounding them creating chaotic assembly and other components of the design.
In this treatise, I intend to represent harmony between the East and the West with a reconstructed modern image by using the form of droplet, which is the shape of lotus flower bud, Korean pattern of lotus with oriental beauty of curves in the national treasure 133, Gourd-shaped Celadon Wine Pot Inlaid with Design of Lotus in Copper and Egyptian geological pattern with western beauty of straight lines as a main designing motive.
Rhino 3D has been used to develop design of lotus petals, an acute bratticing technique and repeating composition effectively and diversely. Gold(18K, 14K), sterling silver, natural stones and synthetic stones have been used for the work.
It would not be considered as an overestimation even if Korean culture should be described as a culture of lotus flowers, which suggests that lotus flowers have a very close connection with our culture. It can be said that to bring a image of a lotus into the world of fashion and develop into a image of Korea is a significant attempt, specially today when an interest in the East is increasing.
