The purpose of this study was to examine the skiing motivation and leisure satisfaction of skiers in consideration of their demographic variables and the influence of their skiing motivation on their leisure satisfaction in a bid to assist skiing around managers to provide a wide variety of quality leisure-sport programs, facilities, events and services. It's ultimately meant to encourage more people to ski as one of leisure sports, to create a sound social climate and finally to boost their job satisfaction and quality of life.
The subjects in this study were 250 people who were selected by simple random sampling from a population that consisted of adults of nineteen and over who had ever skied and dwelled in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Gangweon province as of 2006. After a survey was conducted to determine the impact of the skiing motivation of the skiers on their leisure satisfaction, the answer sheets from 223 respondents were analyzed except for 27 incomplete ones.
The instrument used in this study was questionnaires. To check the validity of the questionnaires, experts were asked to have a meeting, and a
pilot investigation was made. Besides, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was implemented, and the questionnaires turned out to be valid. As for reliability, the questionnaires could be said to be relatively reliable(a=.646 ~ .754). For statistical data handling, SPSS WIN 12.0 program was employed, and T-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and regression analysis were utilized.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, as for connections between the demographic characteristics of the skiers and their motivation, whether they intended to enhance their own image was significantly different according to their demographic characteristics.
Second, regarding relations between their demographic characteristics and leisure satisfaction, their demographic characteristics made a significant difference to their satisfaction with the educational effect of the leisure sport.
Third, the motivation of the skiers had an impact on their leisure satisfaction.
Those who went skiing to improve social relationship expressed more satisfaction with the physiological, environmental, educational and social effects of the leisure sport, and the skiers who wanted to acquire knowledge found the leisure sport more satisfactory in terms of physiology and education. And those who had their sight set on improving their own image considered the educational effect of the leisure sport more satisfactory.
