When it is considered that satellite DMB is a pay service, the number of subscribers of terrestrial DMB did not reach the amount they expected in the beginning, because of the poor service caused by the lack of a Gapfiller.
This study aims to find the factors for attracting Korean consumers to adopt DMB as a new media, using the Rogers'' theory of "Diffusion of Innovations''". This study conducted a research survey by using the causal relationship of the 5 factors of the theory of Diffusion of Innovations: relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability and adoption. In order to verify the deduced 5 hypotheses in the established model, the survey was carried out mainly among people in their 20s to 30s. Knowledge analysis about DMB was carried out to include people who have background knowledge about DMB. As a method of this study, I adopted a structural equation model which is most suitable for it. The research model was built using AMOS 4.O and SPSS/WIN 12.0 for verification of hypothesis.
Results show that relative advantage and compatibility have a significant effect on Korean consumers'' adopting DMB(C.R=7.649, -2.203). The other factors of Roger''s theory: complexity, trialability, observability had no effect. (C.R=0.722, -1.250, 0.324). Additionally as Rogers insisted in his theory, relative advantage had the greatest effect followed by compatibility.
There were some limitations of this study surveyed among 20 to 30 year olds and people living in metropolitan areas as the central figures and factors of DMB adoption for Korean users.
Nevertheless, this thesis applied the theory of diffusion of innovations used broadly in academic fields since the late 20th century to the Korean consumer market. It supplied the early data in the diffusion of innovations of the DMB market and surveyed specific factors for Korean users to adopt DMB.
