청소년의 삶의 목적 수준과 인터넷 중독 및 휴대전화 중독의 관계 = The Relationships among the Level of the Purpose in Life, Internet Addiction, and Cellular Phone Addiction of High School Students

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among the level of the purpose in life, internet and cellular phone addiction of high school students. The research questions raised in this study are as follows:
1. Is there a difference in internet addiction according to the level of the purpose in life among high school students?
2. Is there a difference in cellular phone addiction according to the level of the purpose in life among high school students?
3. Is there a difference in the purpose in life, internet and cellular phone addiction between the students in academic and vocational high schools?
4. Is there any relationship between the internet and the cellular phone addiction among high school students?
The participants in this study were 438 students in 2 academic and 2 vocational high schools. A survey was administered to measure their level of purpose in life, Internet and cellular phone addiction. Data were analyzed with chi-square test, one-way analysis of variance, and correlational analysis using SAS program.
The results of this study are summarized as follows:
First, the group of students whose purpose in life at a higher level were significantly less addicted to the internet, where as the group of students whose purpose in life at a lower level were significantly more addicted to it.
Second, the group of students whose purpose in life were at a higher level were significantly less addicted to the cellular phone, where as the group of students whose purpose in life at a lower level were significantly more addicted to it.
Third, no significant difference was both in the purpose in life and in the overall internet addiction between the students in academic and vocational high schools. However, the vocational high school students were significantly more addicted to the cellular phone than the academic high school students.
Fourth, the students who were more addicted to the internet were also significantly more addicted to the cellular phone.
