여성 결혼이민자의 사회적 자본과 생활 만족도 = Social Capital and Life Satisfaction of the Female Marriage Immigrants in Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The steep increase of international marriages between immigrant women and Korean men is observed in today's Korean society. Therefore it is not uncommon to find Korean male who married female immigrants to Korea. Finding factors make influences on life satisfaction of the female marriage immigrants is very important.
This study tries to show what factors make influences on life satisfaction of the female marriage immigrants: demographic characteristics, social class, human capital and social capital variables. I focussed on the effects of social capital among them, and tried to show operating mechanism of the life satisfaction.
The major findings of this study are summarized in four points. First, among demographic characteristics variables, life satisfaction is different result according to the countries of origin. Second, among social class variables, household income is not statistically significant showing positive correlation. Third, among human capital variables, Korean language fluency of the female marriage immigrants is significant. However, formal education is not significant, on account of the barrier to transfer crossing borders.
Fourth, among social capital variables, interaction between the members of a family is the most important. It increases life satisfaction of the female marriage immigrants. Communication with their families in home country is also important. It is talked over the phone with their families. In addition, social resources embedded on the kinship networks is positive relationship with life satisfaction.
As a conclusion, it is required to give assistance to increase their “social capital” for the sustainability of the female marriage immigrants families. Proper policies are needed to increase life satisfaction of the female marriage immigrants. This study will give background to make policies to increase life satisfaction of the female marriage immigrants. It is necessary to link strongly immigrant families with local community and the government to increase their social capital.
