To hold a dominant position in the competition getting serious in the air transportation industry, it is very important for an airline to improve organizational effectiveness through effective and efficient management of organization of flight attendants in the feature of the air transportation industry depending a lot on human resource.
The purpose of this study is to determine leadership style having positive relationship with organizational effectiveness of flight attendants by understanding the effect of transformational leadership, super-leadership and servant-leadership on self-efficacy and organizational effectiveness.
Data for empirical analysis was collected from the flight attendants in two national airlines from July 10, 2006 to July 30. A total of 268 were selected as an effective sample for this analysis. Data was statistically analyzed using SPSS 12.0 for Window and AMOS 4.0 program.
The results of this study are first, the super-leadership style which the role of leader effective for the flight attendant is to help them setting a direction or goal of the work by themselves, thereby arranging their behavior or thought and proceeding the work is most effective and, at the same time, the leader himself shows such looks as an example; second, the improvement of self-efficacy positively affects the organizational effectiveness such as job satisfaction and organization commitment, thereby raising strong devotion for company, belong and satisfaction of relation with senior more and more; third, in the aspect of the relationship that leadership affect organizational effectiveness mediated by self-efficacy, limited to super-leadership, the effectiveness is higher through self-efficacy.
Therefore, in the case of flight attendants, the role of appropriate and effective leader may be that the leader himself becomes self-leader as a model of them and helps the attendant to be a self-directed leader.
This study means a basic effort to apply leadership style with various concept appropriate for the organization of flight attendants. In addition, it suggests a necessity of further study related to more various leadership style in order to raising self-efficacy and organizational effectiveness for them.
However, the subject of this study is only the attendant in two national airlines. Therefore, it needs more diverse subjects and more collection of samples to generalize and to apply it on the organization of the flight attendant. Besides, it may cause the problem to limit only transformational, super- and servant leadership among various type of leadership. It also has a limitation to develop the questionnaire proper for the organization of the flight attendant, not for common organization and the items measured should be more diverse and concrete. Therefore, I suggests to proceed the research to overcome such problems and limitations.
