An Ethnographic Study on Women's Viewing Experiences of Early Television

The Purpose of this study is to describe and interpret specific viewing experiences of Korean women who watched the so­called ‘early television’in the 1960's and 1970's.
As the result of study, viewing experiences of Korean women
in the 1960's and 1970's appears the difference according to family structure at that time. That is, previous feminism study revealed power relation and patriarchal culture according to reception and consumption of media are changing by gender difference in household. Of course, this study also picked up gender difference within divided family.
But the difference of family structure can be speak to cause that the life of Korean women had operated in a special historical and social context of Korea in the 1960's and 1970's.
To repeatedly speaking, the difference of viewing experiences on early television of Korean women by family structure in the 1960's and 1970's is demonstrated of how the life of Korean women can be restricted and oppressed by the 'Ideal family' had operated in historical and social context of Korea at that time.
Therefore, this study is feminism study in audience-focused, and is different from discourse-focused study of previous scholars on early television. And also is significant to leave the recording of viewing experiences on early television of Korean women in the 1960's and 1970's that is miss all the while.
