헤어스타일에 나타난 착시 효과 연구 = (A)study on the effects of optical illusion appearing in hair styles

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 헤어스타일은 다원주의적 경향과 헤어 디자인 기술의 발달로 헤어스타일의 표현양상이 다양하게 나타나고 있다. 이는 기존의 고정관념에서 벗어나 현대사회의 여러 가지 특징 중에서 탈구조주의 현상인 개성을 지향하는 수용자들의 욕구로 예술적인 것은 물론 심리적인 것까지 반영하는 헤어스타일을 요구하고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 변화의 과정은 1960년대 후반 모더니즘에 반발하여 나타나기 시작한 포스트모더니즘의 영향으로 착시현상을 이용한 형태와 색채를 헤어스타일에 적용하는 것으로서 미니멀리즘 표현을 근간으로 하고 있다.
Seeing is believing, 즉 외형적 이미지가 한 개인의 가치를 판단하는데 중요한 요소가 되고 있다. 이러한 루키즘(lookism)영향은 헤어스타일이 인간의 미에 대한 욕구 충족의 기준이 되고 있다. 이는 인간 본래의 꾸밈 본능에 의해 얼굴형의 보완이나 이미지 부각을 목적으로 착시를 이용한 얼굴형의 결함을 보완하여 장점을 부각시키려는 의도이다.
따라서 본 연구는 시․지각적으로 환영을 불러일으키는 착시의 특성을 헤어스타일에 적용함으로써 고객들의 개성을 부각시키고 단점을 보완하는 원리를 사례 분석을 통하여 정리하고자 한다. 구체적으로는 시각적인 특성인 착시를 이용한 현대인들의 이상적인 개성, 감성, 가치관을 표현하는 헤어스타일을 연출하는데 있어서 다양한 선, 면의 사용과 실루엣의 변형을 통해 움직임이 나타난 착시의 기준을 정리하였다.
이와 같은 방법으로 연구한 내용의 결과는 선이나 방향을 한곳으로 집중시키거나 색상의 위치로 인한 시각적 혼란이 시선을 집중시켜 다시 보고자 하는 욕구로서 디자인 원리 중 강조를 적용한 미로 표현되었고, 결과적으로. 고객이 요구하는 개인의 개성을 부각 시키면서도 창조적인 아름다움을 나타낼 수 있는 헤어스타일 연출이 가능함을 보여주었다.
본 연구는 인간의 시각현상 중 하나인 착시현상을 헤어스타일의 창조적 욕구와 시각적 이미지를 통해 현대인의 외형적인 개성미를 재해석하고 현대 헤어스타일에서 나타나는 착시효과의 적용 가능성과 그들의 한계를 살펴보는데 그 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다.

The hair style today features a variety of expressive modes due to recent pluralistic trend and development in hair designing skills. The users are now requiring the kind of hair style which reflects not only artistic but also psychological aspects. This is because they are pursuing the individuality which reflects a post-structuralistic aspect, among many features of contemporary society. Such change had occurred as a result of post-modernism which appeared in late 1960s as a reaction against modernism. It is based on minimalism, applying the forms and colors which utilize optical illusion on hair style.
“Seeing is believing,” that is, outer images are crucial factor for deciding an individual’s value. The influence of such “Lookism” has become the standard in pursuit of beauty for humankind. This indicates an intention of strengthening one’s good features and masking defects using optical illusion, with the intention of supplementing facial forms or stressing images, originating from the man’s instinct to decorate.
Therefore this study aims to investigate, by analysis of case studies, the principle for emphasizing individual characteristics and supplementing defects, by application of features of optical illusion that creates visual visions on hair style. More specifically, it summarizes the standard for optical illusion whose movement appears through various changes in line, plane, and silhouette, in terms of creating the hairstyle using visual illusions that expresses the character, sensibility, and point-of-view deemed ideal for modern people.
The result of contents of this study indicates that the visual disorientation caused by focusing lines or direction to one spot or by the positioning of colors compels one to focus his or her sight with the desire to look at it once more. This is beauty which employs emphasis, among many principles of designing. As a result, it shows the possibility of creating the kind of hair style that not only strengthens the customer’s individual character but also expresses his or her creative beauty.
This study is meaningful in its reinterpretation of exterior individualistic beauty of modern man through the creative need for hair style arising from the visual illusion as part of basic human phenomenon. It is also an examination of application potential and limitations of such optical illusion in modern hair style.
