      An individual presentation of hair color is becoming an important means of creating his/her own character for a modern person. Currently people gradually seek a more lasting and safe product and method to present hair color. The effective method to make beauty might be one that does not harm the health. The purpose of this study is to help modern people, who have a serious problem of hair injury due to frequent dyeing, produce beauty by investigating if acid detergent secures a lasting stability, if dyeing-only-detergent shows an exceptional effect, and the degree of the epidermal change of dyed hair according to pH and pH balance treatment on the detergent. In this study, each detergent by pH was applied to the sample treated with pH balance and the one treated not. The results are as following ;
      First, the hair with subacidity becomes unstable while alkalized in the process of dyeing. Moreover washing hair with an alkali detergent puts the hair in more unstable state and causes the hairdye to easily drop out of the hair. In the experiment, the dyed sample washed with an alkali detergent showed faster discoloration compared to that washed with an acid detergent or an dyeing-only-detergent.
      Second, the discoloration of dyed sample depended clearly on whether pH balance treatment or not. The dyed sample treated with pH balance treatment showed lesser discoloration than the one treated not. The treatment of pH balance controled pH of the dyed sample that was alkalized in the process of dyeing, more stabilized the state of hair, and kept the hairdye from dropping out of the dyed hair due to the hair detergent.
      Lastly, the degree of dyed hair injury by using various detergents by pH was investigated. It was found out in the observation that the epidermis of the dyed hair repeatedly washed with alkali detergent was dissolved and torn away and the arrangement of the epidermis of hair was also injured. The degree of injury of the epidermis of hair was more severe in the sample treated not with pH balance than in the one treated. It was found out that pH balance treatment controled pH of the alkalized sample, decreasing the injury of hair due to the chemicals included in detergent. Therefore when washing the dyed hair with alkali detergent, acid detergent, or dyeing-only-detergent, alkali detergent injured the dyed hair the most and caused fast discoloration. As for the tenacity of color, bright color showed lower tenacity as it is discolored faster than dark color. It was concluded that the subacid hair becomes alkalized and unstabilized in the process of dyeing, gets more injured from alkali detergent, and pH control by pH balance treatment minimizes the injury. Followings are the suggestions of this study ;
      First, hair has an unequal structure, so it was hard to observe it's change of discoloration.
      Second, general detergents in the market were divided into alkali, acid and dyeing use only, but investigation revealed the pH degree was pH 7.5, pH 4.5 and pH 6.5 respectively showing no distinctive difference. Therefore it was difficult to get any precise and objective data to observe the discoloration of the dyed hair.
      Lastly, experiment of applying detergents by each pH to the dyed hair was conducted. It was hard to grasp the discoloration and degree of the dyed hair injury, because the treatment component contained in the general detergent minimized the hair injury as well as there was much difference between the pH indicated on the product and the pH of alkali detergent, acid detergent and dyeing-only-detergent. This study of the discoloration and the degree of the dyed hair injury according to detergent, color, pH balance might be of help to those modern people to keep healthy beauty in spite of frequent hair coloring operation.
