This study was aimed to investigate the vocational and psychological characteristics of persons with industrial injuries. The actual conditions, vocational characteristics, self-efficacy, and needs and satisfaction of the vocational rehabilitation service were examined.
A questionnaire survey with a cover letter was distributed to 101 persons with industrial injuries who use or used the vocational rehabilitation service from the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows.
First, the majority of respondents had moderate family supporters but were under the unemployment condition because of their industrial injuries.
Second, 86.1% of them were not reemployed not only health conditions and receiving vocational training but also prejudices and psychological handicap. Without any vocational evaluation service they received vocational training services.
Third, the results of ANOVA showed significant differences of self-efficacy in additional cost for vocational training and types of occupation.
Forth, most of them wanted to receive services related to financial consulting and support services for small business and the results showed significant differences of vocational rehabilitation needs based on the age and the degree of service satisfaction.
Fifth, the vocational rehabilitation service was not helpful for re-employment of persons with industrial injuries and there were not enough vocational rehabilitation counselors. Additionally, the results showed significant differences of the satisfaction of services among person who received the service based on local areas.
In conclusion, the consulting, the following suggestions were made.
First, after a conducting vocational evaluation, vocational training services should be provided and a vocational plan should be based on systemic evaluation. The results showed that only 5.1% of them received vocational evaluation services before initiating vocational training.
Second, more services for consulting and supporting a small business operation should be needed. Rehabilitation clients payed additional tuition fees on their own for opening a small business so that the services could be expanded.
Third, based on the needs and psychological characteristics of persons with industrial injuries, the service should be focused on significant demographic elements, such as age. The service needs and satisfaction were different. In addition, institutional vocational training was not helpful for re-employment. Therefore diverse services should be served based on individual service needs.
