The purpose of this study is to show the effect of activities which observe art elements such as color, line, shape, and texture through walking activities on young children‘s art expression.
The subjects of this study were 40 children aged five (20 in the experimental group and 20 in the comparative group).
The children in the experimental group did nature walk activities, in which they observed art elements such as color, line, shape and texture on 16 occasions, whereas the children in the comparative group received simple information about nature and did simple nature walks, such as the nature look round.
The instrument used in this research, an art expression test based on art elements, was composed on the basis of previous research done by a professor in drawing for young children. Each item has 4 sub-categories.
The collect data were analyzed by t-test using SPSS12K program.
The children in the experimental group got higher scores in art expression ability than those in the comparative group, and showed a significant difference at the level of p<.001 in items related with art elements such as color, line, shape and texture.
The result of study shows that activities which observe art elements through nature walks have a positive effect on the improvement of art expression ability.
