This researcher executed 「Mother-Infant Play Program」for the purpose of finding out its effect on child's EQ and the mother's satisfaction rate of role-playing. The program was further be evaluated through qualitative analysis of the change among the infants and the mothers.
The research questions of this study were as following:
1. How does the「Mother-Infant Play Program」affect infants's EQ?
2. How does the「Mother-Infant Play Program」affect mothers's satisfaction rate of role-playing?
3. In the process of the「Mother-Infant Play Program」, how did the infants and mothers react?
The subjects of this research were 40 two-year-old infants and 40 of their mothers, thus the total of 80 people(40 pairs) who lived in the Kyong-gi district(Bundang and Suji). The experimental group was consisted of 20 pairs of mother-and-child who participated in the「Mother-Infant Play Program」run by the J church. The comparative group of 20 pairs of mother-and-child were selected from three children's libraries which accepted the request of research assistance.
The Emotional Quotient Test was carried out by using the "Teacher's Edition of Infant's EQ Test Evaluation Standard" made by Kyung-Hwe Kim in the year 1999. To evaluate the mother's satisfaction rate of role-playing, the research tool of Woo-Kyung Jun(2002) was used after editing.
The previously established research issues resulted in the following conclusions:
First, there appeared a significant difference between the participants of the「Mother-Infant Play Program」and the non-participants.
The following is an analysis by the EQ sub-elements.
There appeared a significant difference between the participants of the「Mother-Infant Play Program」from the non-participants concerning the child's self-emotional recognition/expression and personal relationship skills, which are constituent elements of EQ.
There appeared a negative difference between the participants from the non-participants in the rate of the child's emotional control and restraint on impulsiveness.
In the matter of the child's emotional usage and the emotional awareness/consideration of others, there appeared to be no difference between the participants and the non-participants.
Secondly, the mother's satisfaction rate of role-playing showed a significant difference between the participants of the「Mother-Infant Play Program」from the non-participants.
Thirdly, This is the infants and mothers's reaction about the program, The infants showed changes in showing traits of having more interest toward the teacher and fellow classmates, acquiring social skills, improvement of curiosity and self-expression, extending the play activities into their home. The mothers increasingly tended to recognize the importance of emotional communication with their child, more concern, acquire confidence in playing and educating their child, shift in manners of interaction, acquire confidence as their mothers.
