    This research is the hair change as treating a permanent wave before and after that is compared and analyzed the change of physical, mechanical properties and shape specific This is the survey of women in 20 years old. On the basis of this we would like to analyze a extend of hair damage. Also, we would to show a basic data for hair damage prevention and hair improvement to keep the beautiful and healthy hair. The conclusion is as below.

    1. The degree of swelling after the treatment was found to be greater than before permanent wave treatment. The result was 17,21% before the treatment on untreated hair, 23.00% with regular hitting permanent wave, 23.77% with protein cold permanent wave, 28.00% with regular cold permanent wave, and 28.59% with direct heating permanent wave. For damaged hair, 19.43% before the treatment, 21.14% with regular hitting permanent wave, 25.61% with protein cold permanent wave, 29.09% with direct heating permanent wave, and 31.24% with regular cold permanent wave and for extremely damaged hair, 13.87% before the treatment, 17.44% with protein cold permanent wave, 17.71% with direct heating permanent wave, 21.14% with regular hitting permanent wave, and 36.56% with regular cold permanent wave.
    For the tensile strength, it was 123.4g/1 hair before the treatment on untreated hair and 115.71g/1 hair with regular hitting permanent wave, showing a big difference, 110.55g/1 hair for before the treatment on damaged hair and 82.33g/1hair with direct heating permanent wave, showing a great decrease, and 110.29g/1hair before the treatment on extremely damaged hair and 87.35g/1hair with direct heating permanent wave, showing the greatest decrease. As the degree of damage on hair got greater, the tensile strength dramatically decreased.
    For elongation, it was 44.60% before the treatment on untreated hair and 46.59% with regular cold permanent wave, showing a big difference, 47.71% before the treatment on damaged hair and 42.62% with regular hitting permanent wave, showing a slight decrease, and 51.03% before the treatment on extremely damaged hair and 45.55% with regular hitting permanent wave and as the degree of damage got greater, the effect was great as well. For treatment method, direct heating permanent wave showed the greatest effect, causing the most damage.

    2. For the change of formational characteristics of hair surface, untreated hair before the permanent wave treatment had smooth appearance overall and undamaged scale that is in pattern and finely folded was observed but damaged hair and extremely hair had uneven edge and damages throughout along with the dissolution of scale which the border of epidermal gap is unclear. Hair after a permanent wave treatment caused cortical exposures due to extensive loss of scale during the treatment and even bubble effect. Protein cold permanent wave, regular cold permanent wave, regular hitting permanent wave, and direct heating permanent wave, in that order, had the most damages to the hair.

    3. For the formational characteristics wave, untreated hair certainly had more elastic S curl wave than damaged hair in all the permanent wave treatments, and damaged hair and extremely damaged hair had less elasticity and had saggy S curl wave. The protein cold permanent and regular hitting permanent wave had thicker, gorgeous, and better elastic wave than the regular cold permanent wave and direct heating permanent wave in all the hair condition.
