소집단 조형활동이 유아의 그림 표현능력 및 창의성에 미치는 효과 -환상동화를 중심으로- = The Effects of Small Group Art Activity on Young Children's Drawing Expression Ability and Creativity

The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of small group art activity based on fantasy picture storybooks on the drawing expression ability and creativity of children.
The following research questions were considered;
1. How do small group art activity based on fantasy picture storybooks affect children's drawing expression ability?
2. How do small group art activity based on fantasy picture storybooks affect children's creativity?
The subjects of this study were 52 five-year-old children "C Kindergarten" in Gwangiu City. The children were randomly divided into 2 groups of 26, one group serving as the experimental group, and the other as the comparative group. The subjects of each group were chosen form those that were living in the middle class residential area.
The experimental group performed small group art activity 16 times in total, twice each week over 8 weeks (Tuesday and Friday) from May, 16th, 2005 to July, 8th, 2005. The comparison group performed individual art activity (Monday and Wednesday) during the same period.
Aiming to quantify the effects of comparison group art activities based on fantasy picture storybooks on drawing expression ability were measured 「Drawing Expression Ability Assessment Scale」by Chi Sung Ae(2001). To quantify the effects of small group art activities based on fantasy picture storybooks were on creativity measured by「Chilgyopan Creativity Test」by Kim Sang Yun(2004).
The pre-test and past-test were assigned 1:1 to the children by the researcher at the principle's office which was way off from the classroom. Also by using a free drawing that were drawn in the art class, the drawing expression ability was evaluated by the researcher.
To determine the effects (that small group art activity based fantasy picture storybooks has) on the drawing expression ability and creativity, the collected data from the pre-test and past-test of the experimental and comparative groups were analyzed by t-test using SPSS statistics program.
The result of this study may be summarized as follows.
First, the experimental group that was engaged in small group art activity based on fantasy picture storybooks showed significant difference in the drawing expression ability. In subordinate areas such as 'combination of lines and basic forms,' 'detailed representation,' 'appropriate representation' and 'creative representation,' the scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the comparison group. However, in subordinate areas such as 'use of colors,' 'balanced spatial representation,' 'use of figures,' 'a drawing completion and verbal representing drawings,' increases were seen in both the experimental and the comparative group, but the difference was not significant.
Second, there was a significant difference in creativity between the experimental group and the comparative group. In subordinate areas such as 'fluency,' 'diffuseness,' 'originality,' and 'expressivity,' the scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the comparative group. However, in subordinate areas such as 'concentricity,' 'elaborateness,' and 'flexibility,'increases were seen in both the experimental and the comparative group, but the difference was not significant.
In conclusion, small group art activity based on fantasy storybooks had significant effects on 'combination of lines and basic forms,' 'detailed representation,' 'appropriate representation,' and 'creative representation'. Moreover in terms of creativity, small group art activity based on fantasy storybooks had positive effects on 'fluency,' 'diffuseness,' 'originality,' 'expressivity'. Therefore, the outcomes of this research implies the possibility that small group art activity based on fantasy drawing storybooks can be applied to real educational situations as a means of educational tools.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 환상동화를 중심으로 이루어진 소집단 조형활동이 유아의 그림 표현능력과 창의성에 어떠한 효과를 미치는지 알아보는데 그 목적을 두고 있다.
이러한 연구 목적을 위해 설정한 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
1. 환상동화를 중심으로 소집단 조형활동은 유아의 그림 표현능력에 어떠한 효과를 미칠 것인가?
2. 환상동화를 중심으로 소집단 조형활동은 유아의 창의성에 어떠한 효과를 미칠 것인가?
본 연구대상은 광주광역시에 위치한 C유치원의 만 5세아 52명으로 이들 유아를 실험집단 26명과 비교집단 26명으로 임의 배정하였다. 두 집단 유아의 주거 지역은 중류층 아파트 지역으로 사회 경제적 배경이 유사한 유아들이다.
실험집단은 2005년 5월16일부터 7월 8일까지 매주 2회씩, 화요일과 금요일에 8주간 총16회의 환상동화를 통한 소집단 조형활동을 실시하였고, 비교집단은 같은 기간 동안 월요일과 수요일에 환상동화를 통한 개인별 조형활동을 실시하였다.
본 연구에 사용된 검사도구는 유아의 그림 표현능력 측정을 위해 지성애(2001)가 제작한「그림 표현능력 평가척도」를, 유아의 창의성 측정을 위해 김상윤(1998)「칠교판 창의성」검사도구를 사용하였다. 사전검사와 사후검사는 실험처치 전 후 본 연구자가 교실과 떨어진 원장실에서 유아와 1:1로 창의성 검사를 실시하였고, 그림 표현능력은 미술활동 시간에 자유화를 그리게 하여 본 연구자가 직접 평가하였다. 환상동화를 중심으로 이루어진 소집단 조형활동이 유아의 그림 표현능력과 창의성에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위하여 실험집단과 비교집단의 사전 사후검사로 수집된 자료를 SPSS통계 프로그램을 이용하여 집단간 t 검증으로 비교 분석하였다.
본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 환상동화를 중심으로 소집단 조형활동을 실시한 실험집단 유아의 그림 표현능력이 개인별 조형활동을 실시한 비교집단 유아에 비해 유의미하게 높게 나타났다. 또한 그림 표현능력의 하위 요인 중 기본 도형과 선의 병합, 세부적 묘사, 주제 관련 표상, 표상의 창의성의 영역에서 실험집단 유아의 점수가 비교집단 유아에 비해 유의미하게 증진된 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 다양한 색채, 조화로운 구성, 다양한 형체, 그림의 완성, 표상과 언어의 연계성은 실험집단이 비교집단에 비해 점수는 높았으나 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 없었다.
둘째, 환상동화를 중심으로 소집단 조형활동을 실시한 실험집단 유아의 창의성이 비교집단 유아에 비해 유의미하게 높게 나타났다. 또한 창의성의 하위 요인 중 유창성, 확산성, 독창성, 표현력의 영역에서 실험집단 유아의 점수가 비교집단 유아에 비해 유의미하게 증진된 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 집중성, 정교성, 융통성, 은 실험집단이 비교집단에 비해 점수는 높았으나 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 나타나지 않았다.
결론적으로 환상동화를 중심으로 이루어진 소집단 조형활동은 개별 활동을 한 집단보다 그림 표현능력의 하위 요인인 기본 도형과 선의 병합, 세부적 묘사, 주제 관련 표상, 표상의 창의성 증진에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 창의성에 있어서도 환상동화를 통한 소집단 조형활동은 유창성, 확산성, 독창성, 표현력 증진의 효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 유아교육 현장에서 환상동화를 중심으로 한 조형활동은 소집단을 구성하여 활동하는 것이 유아의 그림 표현능력과 창의성을 증진시키기 위한 교수-학습 방법으로 적용 될 수 있음을 시사한다고 하겠다.
