This study was to investigate the effect of story-making activity with non-verbal video material on the young children's linguistic ability. The specific research question was established as follows:
Does the young children's story-making activity after watching non-verbal video material affect their linguistic ability?
The language domain activities of Project Spectrum were used as an assessment tool for children's linguistic ability. Project Spectrum, developed by a research group Harvard Project Zero, was based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory and Feldman's Non-universal Developmental Theory and was composed of seven domains of intelligence such as movement, language, mathematical, science, visual art, music, and social domains.
The subjects of this study were 20 children who were 3, 4 or 5 years old attending a kindergarten attached to S public elementary school in Wanju county, Jeollabukdo. Reporter activities were applied to 21 themes of video for 7 weeks. The data were analyzed with Analysis of Covariance on the change scores (post-test score minus pre-test score).
The findings of this study were as follows:
Story making activities with non-verbal video material had a positive effect on young children's linguistic ability. Story making activities after watching non-verbal video material are quite worthy way to enhance young children's linguistic ability.
