This study purposed to prepare effective marketing strategies for enlargement of audiences on dance performance in the area of Gyeonggi-do and to provide basic data for studies related to marketing for dance performance. The subject of this study was a general audience in Suwon-si and Anyang-si in the area of Gyeonggi-do. The total of 220 questionnaires were distributed around dance performance halls and collected by this researcher. As a measure tool, a questionnaire survey method was chosen to investigate recognition of a general audience positively. Questionnaires made by Jang Su-jeong(2002) and Oh Heyong-jeon(1998) were modified and supplemented to examine characteristics of performance and leisure activities and questionnaire developed by Kim Si-nae(2002) and Goh Hee-kyeong(1996) were revised and supplemented to measure 4PsCM, a marketing technique, after their suitability, possibility of application, propriety, and confidence were verified and modified to be suitable for the purpose of this study. Questionnaires consisted of four variables items(sex, age, academic career, and occupation) depending on sociology of population, two variables items(frequency of seeing performance, expenses for leisure) depending on characteristics of performance and leisure activities, sub-variables 17 items using 4PsCM, a marketing technique, (performance, price, place, promotion, and customer management). To treat data, SPSS 12.0 version was used after data was treated through data coding and data cleaning. Frequency analysis was conducted to examine general characteristics of respondents, and Pearson's correlation analysis was carried out to find out relations between recognition of importance of 4PsCM by audience. In addition, to investigate characteristics of sociology of population and those of performance and leisure activities, t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted and the following results were drawn:
First, recognition of importance of 4PsCM by audience showed place was the most important, followed by performance, price, promotion and customer management. This result indicates that place functions as the main variable. With regard to correlation between recognition of importance of 4PsCM, all variables showed significant relations, which indicates that recognition of importance of each variables are related closely. Second, as for difference in recognition of importance of 4PsCM depending on sociology of population, generally men recognized the importance more than women did in general. Difference in recognition of importance of 4PsCM by age showed that those who are in twenties were recognized customer management to be important highly and recognition of performance, price, place and promotion were recognized to be important generally without differences. Besides, difference in recognition of importance by academic career showed that high school graduate people recognized only performances highly important and difference in recognition of importance by occupation showed people with professional occupation recognized the importance most in general, while housewife showed low recognition of importance relatively. Third, in respect of difference in recognition of importance of 4PsCM depending on performance and leisure activities, an audience who sees performances six to ten times and more than 11 times recognized the importance highly and an audience who expends more than 310,000 won on leisure activities recognized the importance most.
According to the results of this study, place functions as the most important factor in developing an audience of dance performance in the area of Gyeonggi-do. To develop an audience, it is required that dance performance programs are made in Gyeonggi-do on its own and performance halls with enough conditions for dance group to perform are prepared. In addition, with convenience of public transportation to the performance halls and operation of shuttle bus, it is needed to induce audience to visit performance halls. With enough parking lots and service education for staffs, it is also required to approach audience familiarly. If these plans are set up and programs are prepared, it helps not only to develop audience of dance performance in the area of Gyeonggi-do but also to improve recognition of dance by audience. As well, Efforts are needed to make chances for audience to approach familiarly so that dance performances may draw people's interest step by step.
