The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parent-children communication type perceived by elementary school children and empathy ability. For this purpose, the following three research questions were established.
First, is there any discrepancy in parent-children communication type according to the gender of elementary school students?
Second, is there any discrepancy in empathy ability according to the gender of elementary school students?
Third, is there any relationship between parent-children communication level perceived by elementary school children and empathy ability?
This subjects for this study were 200 sixth grade students sampled from elementary school in Cheong-ju city. In order to gather the data, Test for Paren-Children Communication Type and Stress Coping Style Test were used for the study. The collected data were analyzed using SAS programming.
The main results of this study were as follow;
First, there was no significant difference in empathy ability between different gender of elementary school students.
Second, there was a significant difference in parent-children communication type between different gender of elementary school students.
Third, there was a significant relationship between parent-children communication type and empathy ability of elementary school students.
