Defining the characteristics that describe mastery of the principalship.

There is a national movement toward describing the knowledge and skill set for experienced principals. The State of Wisconsin will soon have an optional license for administrators that distinguishes the hold as a master educator. National standards for administrators are available but were developed to express a body of knowledge for entry to the profession. This dissertation is designed to answer the question, "What knowledge and skills define mastery for principals?" A qualitative study was designed using focus groups of expert leaders in Wisconsin to determine if the ISLLC standards could be used as a framework to determine mastery leadership.
