Skillfully executed classroom management methodologies are the basis of any effective instructional praxis and, according to research, have the most significant influence on student learning. Yet, they are perceived by many educators to be among the most pervasive, enigmatic challenges in education today and have become both more difficult and frustrating for educators as the social problems of the outside world find their way into the schools.
This inquiry focused on the discipline moiety of classroom management and examined the disciplinary practices of three innercity elementary schools via focused group interviews and disciplinary referrals procured at each building site. This study also attempted to contribute to a new perspective on disciplinary practices and raise the consciousness of school staff so that they may more effectively meet student needs.
