Lifestyles and values are changing drastically every day in the modern society due to the emergence of a culture centered on technology and the urbanized industrial society. The realities of the present day require its inhabitants to face the complexities of the modern life and the drastic changes, while seeking individualistic gains and amidst an environment of unprecedented rivalries since the commonly shared values that were considered absolute have now disintegrated. Amidst these realities, numerous people question who they are and what the purpose of their life is. Also, they are increasingly losing their sense of value and uniqueness, and have no room to love and take an interest in their neighbors and others so that they can meet them heart to heart. Due to the nervous state of the people, behaviors that manifest inadaptability are emerging. The purpose of this paper is to help the people to live by forming and maintaining positive interpersonal relations with their neighbors and others whom they can learn to love and care about so that they can believe or try to believe in themselves, casting away these anxieties and psychological sufferings and confusions.
Thus, the author suggests ways in which the people can learn to trust themselves and others through the sensibility training and to hope for a better tomorrow based on these newly gained trusts. Going one step further, they will learn to love others and can get exposed to experiences such as gathering information and meeting diverse contacts. And they will learn to objectively view their personal habits, attitudes, thinking methods etc.
The effects of sensibility training are: pursuit and development of self-identity Self-reception Increased understanding of themselves Increased self-trust and self-respect Opportunity to practice attitudes that enable them to trust, build consensus and listen to others Effective adaptation to the society Capability to form and maintain interpersonal relations Capability to make wise choices by themselves ability to identify problems and common desires Accurate communication skill Capability and courage to rationally accept societal adventures Increased susceptibility to the realization of desires or emotions Honest and sincere self-confrontation Development of their potential through increased self-understanding Self-growth and realization of ego and others.
Openness, sincerity, and feedback with group members provide effective support for the personal growth, ego realization and human relations. Self Concept Test was used to study the influence of sensibility training. Self Concept Test is a test that examines how the subjects view themselves during the relationships with other people. To put it simply, the test intends to find out what are the concepts that the subjects have formed regarding themselves.
The context under which self concept was divided into pluralistic structure was that the concept of self does not get realized simply based on single aspect of separate entity. Instead, it is comprised of diverse, composite and multi-dimensional structures. Self-concept is composed of five dimensions; self-respect, emotional stability, capacity to form and maintain interpersonal relations, problem-solving capability and trust for others. Although these are independent dimensions, they manifest correlation since they mutually influence each other.
The concept of self reflects how well the people think that they can adapt to and meet the demands of the environment they are in, especially during crisis and stressful situations etc. By conducting research on the internal concepts that control the behavior of subjects, the Ego Concept Test can understand and predict their behaviors and even suggest directions for modifying these behaviors.
Concept of self refers to the comprehensive set of opinions and attitudes on how an individual perceives and feels about oneself. In other words, it refers to the perception of oneself and his or her emotions that address questions such as; "who am I?", "who will I become?", "how valuable am I" and "how recognized am I among others?" Concept of ego is a system of self-perception. People who have positive perception of themselves think that they have considerable control over crisis. On the other hand, people who perceive themselves negatively tend to believe that their capability to control is low. The author presumes that the concept of self can improve through the sensibility training, thus the self Concept Test was conducted before the execution of the self Concept and the latter was conducted only after. Two groups were used to ensure increased objectivity to the results.
As a result of the test, subjects of both Group A and Group B experienced significant improvements in their concept of ego. Group A was composed of lay followers, and the trust of others manifested greatest improvement among the structural elements of the ego concept. Group B was centered on graduate students of counseling and the respect for the self showed the highest change. In sum, the concept of self improved, however it was possible to witness that there were differences by structural elements. One reason is that the results can differ according to the group leader. That is, a leader could emphasize any of the following; self-respect, emotional stability, capacity to form and maintain interpersonal relations, problem-solving capability and trust for others.
As a result, people's concept of ego tends to improve when they undergo the sensibility training and there is a possibility that it will continue to improve if it is taken continuously.
Thus, church leaders, teachers, counselors etc. who lead the people who live in the modern society must take the sensibility training since the people who have a more positive concept of ego tend to form increasingly harmonious human relations, healthy family and church. And it is possible to realize one's problems and to recover relationships with others and with God by recovering relationship with oneself, giving hope and love to the family and society. sensibility training should become more widespread and continue to develop in schools, churches and workplaces so that the troubled humanity can undergo recuperation process and to form healthy families and society.
