In this study, the influence of corporate philanthropy on corporate image, purchase intention, and the intention of maintaining a customer relationship was empirically researched according to the features of consumers. The research data were analyzed by using SPSS12.0 statistics package, and the data were subject to reliability analysis, correlation analysis, simple linear regression analysis, and ANOVA analysis by random block design.
The study results include the following.
First, the more consumers saw company’s intention of corporate philanthropy publicly beneficial and charitable, the better the corporate image became. This result proves that pure and publicly beneficial corporate philanthropy will give a better corporate image to consumers.
Second, the more consumers perceived that a company was faithful to corporate philanthropy, the better the corporate image turned out. This shows that it is crucial for companies to create a friendly a social atmosphere through a strategic selection such as the support for solving a social problem or an issue, and to more activate strategic marketing for corporate philanthropy.
Third, the bigger a personal involvement to corporate philanthropy was, the better the corporate image became. This result demonstrates that the effect of corporate philanthropy can be enhanced when companies choose to do meaningful corporate philanthropy that consumers are interested in rather than do a commercial and corporate strategic philanthropy that shows the great effect of investment from a corporate perspective.
Fourth, the effect of corporate philanthropy which is mentioned as an influential factor to a corporate image was influencing consumers’ intention of purchase, and this backs up the purpose of corporate philanthropy.
Fifth, the effect of corporate philanthropy was influencing the intension of maintaining a customer relationship from a long-term perspective as well as the enhancement of a corporate image and the intention of purchase. Given corporate sustainability, the positive influence of corporate philanthropy on the intention of maintaining a customer relationship is an outcome supporting that philanthropy is the best marketing and an investment tool.
This study is meaningful in that it empirically proved that the influence of corporate philanthropy can be different according to the features of consumers, and the study suggested a crucial marketing direction on a practical affairs level along with the need of a corporate philanthropy. Therefore, it needs to avoid expedient corporate philanthropy and to pursue a corporate philanthropy more systematically and strategically under a perception that a corporate philanthropy is the best marketing strategy that brings forth profits to companies from a long-term perspective.
