In this study, we have performed a comparative analysis between learning using multimedia courseware and traditional method on student achievements. The experiment was performed to two groups, the statistical group and the comparative group, which were prepared each of 82 students in two classes in G High School, Gyeonggi-do, respectively. The classes for test group and control (comparative) were performed using multimedia courseware and traditional method, respectively. The researchers have developed the teaching plan for the 'wave energy' part listed in the curriculum of highschool 10th-grad science, multimedia courseware, and the assesment tool for the achievements based on the teaching plan. A pretest for the science achievement was held before the experiment. After having four classes of using multimedia courseware, an achievement test was held. To improve the reliance, all the factors of negative interference was eliminated. The reliability was evaluated with the Cronbach's α-coefficient. To test the teachers validity, the frequency analysis and technical statistical analysis were performed. To compare the average in terms of the class hours and group of students, t-testing was used. The statistical analysis has been performed using SPSSWIN 12.0 program. The followings are the results from this study.First, for understanding of the wave, test group achieved the mark of 0.72, while the controled group achieved the mark of 0.45. This means that teaching with the multimedia courseware is more effective than traditional teaching method in science achievement(p<.001).Second, for propagation of the wave, test group achieved the mark of 0.72, while the controled group achieved the mark of 0.41. This means that teaching with the multimedia courseware is more effective than traditional teaching method in science achievement(p<.001).Third, for moving of the wave, test group achieved the mark of 0.76, while the controled group achieved the mark of 0.42. This means that teaching with the multimedia courseware is more effective than traditional teaching method in science achievement(p<.001).Fourth, for whole understanding, test group achieved the mark of 0.73, while the controled group achieved the mark of 0.43. This means that teaching with the multimedia courseware is more effective than traditional teaching method in science achievement(p<.001).In conclusion, it is proven that teaching with multimedia courseware is more efficient than traditional teaching method in understanding, propagation, and moving of the wave including whole understanding part.
