The survey in focus of this paper has been conducted in an attempt to improve the curricula of the two-year program related to beauty care by surveying the registered students in the two-year program related to beauty care on their satisfaction with their majors, educational process, and management of the program.
Four hundred and eleven students who are attending the two-year program of beauty care in five colleges in downtown Pusan were surveyed, and the data collected was analyzed in its frequency, accountability, factors, average, and standard deviation using the SPSS VERSION 13.0 and ANOVA was applied to the data.
To the question as to why they have chosen the program they are studying at college now, the most frequent answer was "Because the students considered their aptitude,"though many others also answered that they have chosen the program because they considered the expectation of others surrounding them as well as their academic marks.
For the question asking what the student wished to do for their future career, the most frequent answer was hair-styling, rather than skin-care, and the following answers included makeup and nail-care. However, to the question asking which part of beauty care has the most prospects, many answered skin-care has the most prospect, although many have chosen their majors and future careers on the basitheir aptitudes, not the prospect of each field.
Students who plan to become hair designers showed the highest satisfaction rate with the curricula of their programs, whereasstudents who plan to become skin-care professionals showed the lowest satisfaction rate with their programs.
In terms of the satisfaction rates, students in the day programs, rather than those in the night programs, showed higher satisfaction rate. While those between the age of 26 and the age of 30 showed the most satisfaction rate with their curricula, those over the age of 31 were the most unsatisfied with their education. It should be noted, however, that there was no statistical, remarkable differencein the satisfaction rates on the basis of different academic backgrounds, which year at college the students were in, and different motives for choosing the program.
Additions the students wanted to their current curricula include : the on-hand experiencesof education they are receiving, intensified practical trainings, trainings on personality, and theoretical teachings.
The questions on the curricula had been grouped into seven factors for the analysis of the factors for the students' answers. The resultof this grouping was that the difficulty of the curricula affected the satisfaction rate most, and the personal opinions, the contents of the subjects, the application of on-hand practical trainings for the subjects that require such practicality, the proportion of the practical trainings, the number of the classes that execute practical trainings per week, and the satisfaction rate with the majors appeared to be related with the overall satisfaction rate with the program.
There is a correlation between the satisfaction rate with the curricula and the satisfaction rate with the management of the program. According to the analysis of accountability, the satisfaction rate with the curricula was more accountable than the satisfaction rate with the management of the program.
As demonstrated by the survey, the students'satisfaction rate with the curricula has more to do with the overall satisfaction rate with the program than the satisfaction rate with the management of the curricula. Thus, colleges will be required to do more research on, and put more efforts into, diversification of the educational system, including the customized education for the aptitude of each student, rather than to put more efforts into the hardware part, such as the investment into facilities.
