The purpone of this study were to investigate the use of nutritional supplements(vitamins, mineral, ginseng, red ginseng, amino acids, creatine and oriental medicine) in national judo team and university team of energy supplements and doping consciousness why athletes are using nutritional supplements, and who recommends the judo athletes to use nutritional supplements. The total population of national judo team and university team(n=57, 35males and females aged 23.46-21.46 years) and selected controls from the general population, were given questionnaire including questions about use of nutritional supplements, and from whom athletes had received information about nutritions and recommendations to use nutritional supplements.
The response rate was 80% for national team and university team. NS users in national team(82.9%) was higher than of university team(82.4%). NS users in female(85.7%) was higher than of male(80.7%). Therefore, athletes as compared to used vitamins(national team: 29.6%>university team: 27.6%, male: 25.%>female:34.5%), mineral(national team: 5.6%>university team: 4.6%, male: 6.4%>female:3.4%), ginseng(national team: 3.7%<university team: 10.3%, male: 3.6%>female:13.8%), red ginseng(national team: 11.1%>university team: 3.4%, male: 6.4%<female:8.6%), amino acids(national team: 18.5%>university team: 8.0%, male: 16.4%>female:6.9%) and oriental medicine(national team: 17.3%<university team: 40.2%, male: 28.2%>female:31%). The parents was the main advisor for use of nutritional supplements athletes(59.9%). Male and female athletes(73.0%) using nutritional supplements felt they weren't well informed about nutritional supplements. Therefore, 20% of the nutritional supplements users did not know whether the nutritional supplements they used was doping classified not. In conclusion: we found that 80% for male and female Judo athletes in national team and university team intake nutritional supplements. The parents was the main advisor male and female national Judo team and university team. The most athletes is national Judo team and university weren't well informed about doping.
