This study aims at verifying how much educational effect Self-expression Training Program has on improving the self-expression in the middle school students who are in the transitional period from childhood to adulthood
Self-expression Training Program for improving students' self-expression was applied to solve these main points of this study. The experimental students are third grade middle school students at Wanju-gun in Chonbuk. The 114 students had taken self-expression test previously. After test, 28 volunteered students among those who had poor speaking abilities were selected. After the subjects were selected, Self-expression Training Program was executed after class with a counselor working at Wanju-gun Youth Counseling Office on every Monday and Wednesday from March 7th, 2005 to March 30th, 2005. This program consisted of 8 sessions and each session continued 90 minutes.
A week after finishing this program, to check the effect of Self-expression Training Program on middle school students' self-expression, post-test was executed using self-expression tester. All the data of pre-test which was executed for researching on actual condition and post-test which was performed after Self-expression Training Program are analyzed using the SPSS 11.5 program. The difference in the experimental group was verified through a paired sampling t-test and chi-square test. The following study results came out by verifying the hypotheses:
First, the students who are poor at self-expression show a positive change after receiving the Self-expression Training.
Second, the students who are poor at self-expression show a positive change in the self-expression frequency in class after receiving the Self-expression Training.
Third, the students who are poor at self-expression show a positive change in the confidence with which they can self-expression what they should say in any place and time after receiving the Self-expression Training.
Fourth, the students who are poor at self-expression show a positive change in the human relationship, especially asking and refusing after receiving the Self-expression Training.
Fifth, the students who are poor at self-expression show a positive change in the human relationship, especially their attitudes and behaviors after receiving the Self-expression Training.
The main points of this study were verified that the effect of Self-expression Training Program on middle school students' self-expression would be high. However, there are some problems to generalize it because only 28 students among 114 third grade students at middle school in Wanju-gun in Chonbuk took part in this program as subjects. In addition, this study only examined the experimental group without comparing with controlled group so this study has some limitation. Despite this limitation, if the students have a chance to meet Self-expression Training Program, it can help them solve their problems in a positive way.
