The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of story telling and discussion on the development of children's behaviors and to provide the basic material that is able to utilize at the job-site.
To meet the above purpose, two study questions have been set up as follows:
1. Is there any significant difference in helping behavior of story telling and discussion?
2. Is there any significant difference in sharing behavior of story telling and discussion?
The objects for this study consisted of 120 four, five years old children who attended J kindergarten and K kindergarten in Gimje, Jeonbuk.
The experimental procedure was pre-test and pre-observation, six weeks intervention, and post-test and post-observation.
Each group was video taped three times in the pre-test and post-observation phases.
As the mean of test was used Iannotti(1985)'s helping behavior 5 steps and the collected data was managed by using SPSS 11.5 program and analyzed covariance to see average and statistical control of pre-test and post-observation.
The results of the study were as follows:
1. There were significant differences in the development of children's helping behavior among the three different groups of children. Especially, the scores of children's helping behavior was significantly higher in the group exposed to story telling with discussion compare with the group without discussion and control group.
2. The experimental Ⅱ group that was exposed to story telling with discussion was higher scores than group Ⅰ and control group while sharing behavior but there were not significant differences for statistical control.
