This study aims at studying the activation plan of dance education within the primary schools suggesting the direction of dance education while pointing out the problems of dance education in primary schools.
This study surveyed the contents about dance curriculum, lesson for teaching, facility and operation status, and improvement plan for dance education in leader survey ① after selecting 38 of male students and 86 of female students, total 124 students in primary schools and 15 male teachers and 97 female teachers among 112 teachers while choosing 3 primary schools located in Seoul municipality city using convenience sampling to find out the activation plan that both the leader and learner can satisfy and the current status of primary school dance education. In survey ②, it surveyed about the point that the primary school students who are learners want in interest and perception of dance class, participation desire in dance class and what they want in dance class.
The data analysis distributed the survey about current status and perception to grope effective improvement direction of dance education in primary schools to the leaders and learners and divided them in age, gender and grade, and as the survey questions were individual, it used variate analysis, cross analysis and correlation analysis.
The study results achieved through the procedure as above are as follow.
First, the satisfaction degree of expression activity of the 7th curriculum and physical education curriculum is moderate, and the reason why the minority replied they are dissatisfactory is that it doesn't fit to the situation of the school. They are teaching dance courses at any time they are needed as we see those in 1 week unit, and the contents that we can guide with the most confidence were shown as the basic movements among expression activities.
Also, it was shown that the most difficult contents to guide among curricular expression activities were creative expression activity. The level according to the grade of the curriculum was middle, and they wanted entertaining dance to be added in the curriculum. When they taught dance in classes, the data of practice guidance were lacking so they had difficulty in class guidance, and they were participating in training or dance lessons to replenish their dance guide ability, and they were utilizing internet motion picture or video data. Also, they replied that the ability and demand of the teachers were the top priority, and they have experienced the training in private institutes and the participation expense was payed in full on their own.
There were no dancing room inside the school, and they instruct on the floor of the class room at dance classes, and the facilities for dance classes had video equipment. They taught dance classes by a whole class less than 40 students. The biggest problem in dance instruction was that the teacher lacked guidance ability. They replied in order that there was no guidance plan useable in dance classes.
Second, in the interest, perception and participation desire of the learner, the opportunity that they first contacted dance class was in the mass game for field day, and the most difficult thing on dance classes was that they were shy and unbecoming, and the learner didn't have more interest in dance classes than in other courses as the learner was moderate in sites in dance class, necessity of dance class and perception of dance class, and in the participation desire in dance class, the person who experienced in dance showed more participation desire than the non-experienced person.
Third, the leader needed video data related to the dance class in effective dance education, and as for the class composition in dance classes, less than 20 students were moderate, and what they wanted to learn in private institutes were basic movements(creative activity), expressive activity, Korean folk dance in order. Also, they needed the teachers who are exclusively responsible for dance education by the reply that expert teachers in dance must teach dance classes, and they replied that the category of dance must belong to the physical education and they don't need dance textbook as one course while the dance course avoids the category of physical education. In case of the learners, they wanted to learn entertaining dance, rhythm gymnastics using tools, artistic dance(Korean dance, ballet, modern dance) at dance classes in order, and what they wanted in dance class was the place where they can dance freely, the teacher who teaches dance class with fun, and the provision of props such as snare drum, fan, bar and music CD.
It is the biggest problem that the general teachers look on dance education at primary schools as the results above, and it is also rising up that there is no efficient program that can induce the interest of the learner. Like this, to activate dance education within the primary school, it is urgent to develop various textbooks and programs needed in dance education and the conversion of perception by the teachers, and the teachers who can exclusively teach dance are needed. Ultimately, the government must prepare dance education institution by policy.
