In Doneubogam (東醫寶鑑), HerJune (許俊) classified the processes of life formation as four levels: Taei (太易), Taecho (太初), Taesi (太始), and Taesou (太素). Taei (太易) is considered as the root of the universe or all things, and it is said that life is originated from the level of Taei (太易). It said that from Taei (太易), the original state not including Qi (氣), life is generated through the developmental levels of Qi (氣, 太初), Form (形, 太始), and Nature (質, 太素). This view of life represents that all roots of the universe formation are connected and life is originated from continually integrated Qi (氣).
On the life-view of human body, spirit and energy (精氣) of the heaven and the earth is the origin of new life, and father's and mother's spirit and energy(精氣) becomes the essential soul “Horn” (魂) of “Yang” (陽) and “Baek” (魄) of Yin (陰) respectively. An then the combination of soul “Horn” (魂) and “Baek” (魄) brings about the birth of new life. That means that a new life is caused by the combination of Yin (陰) and Yang (陽) from mother's and father's essential spirit and energy (精氣). Also, human body is considered as a temporary combination of Ground (地), Water (水), Fire (火), and Wind (風).
The length of human life depends on the rise and fall of Qi (氣). The major preservative methods to keep human life, for example. are Taesikbub (胎息法), Baneunboksikbub (搬運服食法), Hwandannaeryeunbub (還丹內煉法), Anmadoinbub(按摩導引法), and All of these methods is to preserve Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Spirit (神) in the state of soundness.
The three essential sources, Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Spirit (神) which dominate the structure of body with the five viscera and the six entrails (五臟六腑), form spirit and body through interaction among them, not the separate operation.
The diseases of human body's life mean the loss of balance of three sources, so we firstly should find the reason and origin of diseases and check the unbalance of three sources. In this point, Human body's good health is to keep the balance of these three sources, and the cure of diseases is to remedy problems through understanding the unbalance of Qi (氣) and the five viscera and the six entrails (五臟六腑).
The thought of HerJune (許浚) includes all combined thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Dongeubogam (東醫寶鑑) has the preservative characteristics such as the moderation of greed and the thought of neutralization from Confucianism, the theory of Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Sprit (神) and Charmdonggae (參同契) from Taoism focusing on Lao-tse (老子) and Jangja (莊子)‘s thoughts, and the formation principle of Ground (地), Water (水), Fire (火), and Wind (風) from Buddhism.
In conclusion, HerJune (許浚) considered life as keeping the systematic relationship and continuous interaction of three sources "Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Spirit (神). On the view of oriental medical science, HerJune(許浚) explained the conditions of life based on the view of Essence (精), Qi (氣), and Spirit (神) from Taoism and developed the theories of health preservation in the view of Preventing (豫防) medical science.
