The purpose of this research was to understand the cause and effect relationship between elementary school students' personality development, their level of, and purpose for, discipline in Taekwondo, and their impressions of their Taekwondo instructors. In order to understand these sociological features of Taekwondo, this thesis collected information from 314 students who were registered in the Taekwando Federation in three different cities: Yeosu, Suncheon and Gwangyang.
On the basis of the questionnaires that were made, I performed both frequency analysis and relative analysis. I then examined the result of these studies. The conclusions are presented below.
    1) The effect of students' level of, and purpose for, discipline on their Instructor Evaluations
On the professionalism evaluation of Taekwondo leaders, beginners and white belts were more positive than black belts.
Those who were taking Taekwondo for psychological and social purposes were much more positive in their evaluations than those who took Taekwondo for physical reasons.
The image evaluation also considered both the level of specialty and the attitude of Taekwondo instructors. In evaluating these particular perceptions of their instructors, there was a difference between elementary school students whose friends had recommended they take Taekwondo, and students who had been recommended by parents, brothers and sisters. Those recommended by friends gave more positive evaluations of their instructors' attitudes and specialization.
    2) The effect of students' level of, and purpose for, discipline on their own Personality Development
Beginners and black belts were much more polite than white belts.
Those who take Taekwondo for psychological and social purposes were much more polite than those who took Taekwondo for physical reasons.
Elementary school students who started Taekwondo because it was recommended to them by friends had much more patience and self respect than those who were in Taekwondo because their parents, brothers and sisters recommended it to them.
    3) The relationship between elementary school students' level of, and purpose for, discipline, their instructor evaluations, and their own personality development
The level of discipline in Taekwondo has a negative relationship with students' perceptions of the professionalism of their instructors, and a plus relationship with their own self respect.
Students' purpose for discipline has a positive relationship with their perceptions of their instructors' professionalism, role and attitude. It also had a positive relationship with their patience, self respect, and politeness.
The more professional the Taekwondo students were, the less they thought of their instructors as professional.
Also, the more students thought of their instructors as professional, the greater their own patience, self confidence, self respect, and level of politeness.
Students' impressions of their instructors' role and attitude had a negative relationship with their own patience, and self respect.
    4) The cause and effect relationship between elementary school students' level of, and purpose for, discipline, their instructor evaluations, and their own personality development
The level of a student's discipline influences their perceptions of the level of professionalism in their instructors. Their purpose for studying Taekwondo influences their perceptions of their instructors' professionalism, level of specialty, and role/attitude. Their purpose for undertaking Taekwondo influences their own self respect. Also, their perceptions of their instructors' professionalism influences their patience and self respect. Their perceptions of their instructors' role and attitude influence their confidence and politeness.
