노인학교를 통한 지역봉사 및 교회활성화 방안 = Ways of serving the local community and revitalizing the church through the school of the aged

Yongmoon Church where I have been serving has the history of 100 years as planted in 1904. Our church is located at the rural place of residence about one hour far away from the city of Seoul. Our church has about 650 attending adult members and 300 Sunday school members in the day time worship on Sunday. Of the church members the elderlies over the age of 65 occupy 17% which is expected to be increasing gradually. Our church has the plan of revitalizing the church through serving the local community by opening and operating the school of the aged.
In implementing such idealities there are the impediments such as the lack of understanding on the school of the aged in Christian education and of the professional leaders for the ministry for the school of the aged.
Evidences why our church shall operate the school of the aged are that the important essences of the church are the education and service. Thus the Biblical and theological evidences are described on the church which is the community of serving and educating, and at the same time this dissertation has described on the Biblical, theological, and general understanding on the aged which is the subject of this project.
In order to achieve the idealities of serving local community and revitalizing the church through the operation of the school of the aged, the change theory was adopted. There are the three stages in change theory such as unfreezing, change, and refreezing stage. In the unfreezing stage I preached to the governing board and held seminars for all the church members to present the vision on the school of the aged. In the change stage the school of the aged was established and opened from Oct. 09, 2004 by educating the teachers who take the duties for the education of the aged. And in the refreezing stage our church evaluated how much changes the elderlies have showed through the school of the aged, and how much revitalization the church has showed. And based on such materials of the results this study has been seeking the model of better school of the aged. Such all courses are described in the theoretical framework and interventions.
The evaluations made after the operation of the school of the aged are as the follows;
The aged could have new understanding on Bible and theology. We see the aged in joy as they feel the great worth from the school of the aged showing the thanking attitude toward the church. And I found that it is very important for the church to understand the aged under Christian education theory. I learned through the experience that the church can be revitalized when it has the concerns about the problems of the aged.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

필자가 섬기고 있는 용문교회는 1904년에 설립된 100년의 역사를 가진 교회로서, 서울에서 한 시간 거리에 있는 전원주택지에 위치해 있다. 주일 낮 예배 장년 출석 인원이 650명이고, 교회학교는 300명으로 구성되어 있다. 이 중에서 65세 이상의 교인이 17%를 차지하고 있으며, 이 비율은 점차 늘어갈 것으로 전망되어 노인학교를 개설 운영하여 지역사회 봉사와 교회 활성화를 이루고자 한다.
이러한 이상을 실현함에 있어서 장애요소는 노인학교에 대한 기독교교육적 인식의 부재, 노인학교를 위해 사역할 전문 지도자의 부족 등을 들 수 있다.
노인학교를 해야 하는 근거로는, 교회의 중요한 본질이 교육과 봉사에 있기 때문이다. 그래서 교육하는 공동체로서의 교회와, 봉사하는 공동체로서의 교회에 대한 성서적, 신학적 근거 등을 기술하였고, 본 논문의 주제인 노인에 대한 성서적, 신학적, 일반적 이해 등을 기술하였다.
노인학교를 운영하여 지역사회 봉사와 교회 활성화를 이루겠다고 하는 이상을 실현하기 위하여 변화이론을 채택하였다. 변화이론에는 해빙-변화-재결빙의 단계가 필요하다. 그래서 필자는 해빙 단계에서 노인학교에 대한 비전제시를 위해 당회원 세미나, 설교 등을 하였고, 변화의 단계에서는 실제로 노인교육을 담당할 교사를 양성하여 2004년 10월 9일부터 노인학교를 개교하여 실시하였다. 그리고 재결빙의 단계에서는 노인학교를 통해서 노인들이 얼마나 변화되었으며, 교회가 활성화 되었는지를 평가하고, 이를 통해 나온 자료를 토대로 더 발전적인 노인학교를 모색하였다. 이러한 모든 과정은 이론적 틀과 타개책에서 기술하였다.
이러한 내용으로 노인학교를 운영한 후 나타난 평가는 다음과 같다. 우선 노인에 대한 성서적, 신학적 이해를 새롭게 가졌고, 노인학교에 대해 큰 보람을 갖고 있으며, 무엇보다도 노인들이 아주 즐거워하며 교회에 대해 매우 고마워하는 것으로 평가되었다. 또한, 본 논문을 진행하면서 노인에 대한 기독교교육적 인식을 갖는 것이 매우 중요하다는 것을 발견하였고, 한국교회가 노인문제에 관심을 갖고 봉사할 때 교회가 활성화될 수 있다는 것을 경험적으로 알게 되었다.
