The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an integrated approach based on the music appreciation activities on young children's emotional intelligence and creativity.

Hypothesis 1 : A preschooler group engaged in integrated music appreciation activities might have a better emotional intelligence than the other preschooler group engaged in regular music appreciation activities.
Hypothesis 2 : A preschooler group engaged in integrated music appreciation activities might have a better creativity than the other preschooler group engaged in regular music appreciation activities.
The subjects in this study were 50 young children at the age of 5 in Western age, who attended J educational institution located in Gwang-ju. An experimental group and a control group were set up with 25 children each. The experimental group participated in intergrated music appreciation activities for eight weeks, twice a week, and the control group just listened to music and had a talk. Before the experiment, pretest was conducted to see whether or not the two groups were equivalent, and it's found that there was no significant gap between the two groups in emotional intelligence. After the experiment was implemented for eight weeks, posttest was carried out in the same way as the pretest.
The instrument used in this study was Bar-on and Parker(2000)'s Emotional Quotient Inventory, or EQI, which was modified by Lee Yeoung-seok, Lee Jeong-hwa and Kim Mi-hyeong(2001) to be valid and adapted by the Future Early Childhood Education Research Institute(2001) to fit in Korea circumstances. And The instrument used in this study was Davis and Rimm(1985)'s Preschool and Kindergarten Interest Descriptor, or PRIDE, which was modified by the Future Early Childhood Education Research Institute(2001) to fit in Korea circumstances. After pretest was conducted, the experiment was fulfilled, which was followed by posttest. The date from the tests were analyzed frequently, using ANCOVA and MANOVA, SPSS WIN 12. 0 computer programs.
The result of the study were as follows :
First, as for the effect of the integrated music appreciation activities on emotional intelligence, the experimental group got higher scores in EQ than the control group that just listened to music.
Second, among EQ subfactors, there was no significant gap in emotional awareness. If the integrated music appreciation activities are fulfilled as part of regular curriculum, it will serve to improve emotional awareness.
Third, as for the effect of the integrated music appreciation activities on creativity, the experimental group got higher scores in EQ than the control group that just listened to music.
We could put forward based on the results of this study as follows :
First, elaborated program through study on more various activities of integrative listening to music and well-organized long-term education paralleled to an annual education are required considering the effect of listening to music on the EQ and Creativity.
Second, high quality devices and facilities must be supported regarding the effect of listening to music and influence on children and the right recognition of children educational institute is required as well.
Third, the chances of education in the activity of listening to music must be provided teachers of children educational institute and preparatory teachers in order to change their understanding of listening to music and to make them compose and teach the way appreciating music.
