Decision-making is the core and hearth of administration and administration is decision-making. That's why people say that administration and education all depend on the quality of decision-making.
The director that is the core element of efficient management of an educational facility for infants should make reasonable decisions based on the principle of teachers' participation instead of subjective opinions.
The study examined how the teachers perceive the type of the director's decision making(arbitrary, controlling, adjustable, participating) and difference in the type by background features. Also, the study looked into its relationship with the teachers' job stress.
Therefore, the study was done with the teachers in educational facilities for infants and examined the relationship between the director's decision-making type perceived by the teachers and the teachers' job stress in order to find out the desirable decision-making type of directors in educational facilities for infants and to help solve the teachers' job stress efficiently.
The study surveyed 350 nursery teachers through questionnaires and the final analysis was done with 256 teachers.
The followings show the results of the study.
First, the directors' decision-making types of the teachers' perception were in the order to adjustable type(62.0%), participating type(21.6%), controlling type(11.8%) and arbitrary type(4.5%).
As for the difference in the directors' decision-making type by the teachers' background features, there were significant differences by education level, teaching experience, marriage status, age and income but there was no significant difference by involved organization.
Second, as for the difference in the teachers' job stress by their background features, the average stress level of the teachers was 2.75, which is not high.
When the teachers' job stress was examined by sub-element, the stress level declined in the order of work-related, administrative support, activity with children and personal relationship.
The job stress level was significantly different by the teachers' teaching experience, marriage status and income but there was no significant difference by involved organization, education level and age.
Third, in the relationship between the directors' decision-making type and the teachers' job stress, the decision-making type of directors had a direct effect on the teachers' job stress. The arbitrary-type gave the most stress and the participating type gave the least stress.
The study tries to give suggestions that can be applied in the real education for infants.
First, when the study looked into the most desirable decision-making type of the directors, which can effectively achieve the educational purpose of educational facilities for infants, the arbitrary decision-making type gave the most stress to the teachers and the participating decision-making type gave the least stress.
Therefore, the directors of educational facilities for infants should make decisions through the teachers' groupthink and practice decision-making of groupthink that allows teachers' participation in decision-making. This will also reduce the teachers' job stress.
However, the arbitrary type and the controlling type produce difficulties when performing the educational purpose, and they have the biggest effects on the teachers' job stress so when the directors are choosing a decision-making type, they should exclude the arbitrary type and the controlling type.
Second, the study showed that the teachers' job stress has a very close relationship with low salary, excessive amount of work and lack of administrative support.
Therefore, the directors should search for administrative and financial supports to solve the problems. The teachers should be trained repeatedly in order to provide the opportunity to develop their professional skills to the teachers of educational facilities for children.
