미국의 법의간호학 교육과정 및 법의간호사의 역할

Forensic nursing is a new evolving specialty in nursing and encompasses providing care to victims of crime and sexual assault, collecting evidence, and providing health care services within the community and the prison system. Specialty areas within forensic nursing include forensic clinical nurse specialist, forensic nurse investigator, nurse coroner/death investigator, sexual assault nurse examiner, legal nurse consultant, forensic gerontology specialist, forensic psychiatric nurse, and correctional nursing specialist. This study was aimed to introduce the curriculum of forensic nursing and forensic nurse's role in U.S.A. and make a suggestion for the future of forensic nursing in Korea. Thirty universities offer their own forensic nursing educational programs in U.S.A.. Four universities have bachelor's degree programs, 11 universities have master's degree program, one university has doctor's degree program. The others have some certification programs, and the continuing education programs. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Adult(SANE-A) and Legal Nurse Consultant Certification(LNCC) are officially board certified forensic nurses in U.S.A.. In forensic nursing educational programs, major subjects are focussed to the basis of forensic nursing, forensic medicine(pathology), forensic psychiatry, clinical practice, home and sexual assaults, forensic evidence, criminal laws and crime scene evaluation. In contrast, there is only one master's degree program in Korea and forensic nursing itself is not familiar with korean society. Forensic issues associated with crimes and medicolegal arguments in the hospital will be increased and the role of the forensic specialist within the health care environment will be emphasized in the future. We need a variety of forensic nursing educational programs designed to introduce nurses to the forensic aspects of health care and public service. Certification program also has to be prepared, but it should be limited to the qualified registered nurses for their professionality. Political and administrative supports are also strongly recommended in Korea.
